(My writing starts here)

Stephanie dropped the note and ran. She didn't make it far before hearing a noise. Scratching, she thought. The further she went, the more scratch marks she saw. All along the walls they were visible, and the abandoned dinning area had no tables without bitten table legs.

She heard a small noise from the creature.

It was Skip, of course it was.

She called out to him. "Skeep, come here you little troublemaker". She noticed the feline was stuck on some gum.

"I see your in a bit of a

Sticky

situation".

She shook her head at her own pun, knowing Mat wasn't there to do it.

Making puns Steph? At a time like this?

She tried to imagine his reply.

In the panic, Steph almost forgot why she was there in the first place. She and Mat had been there to save Mat's mother. Steph lost everyone she loved, excluding her pesky cat. She couldn't doom Mat's mother to the same fate.

Stephanie helped get the cat unstuck and began to move back towards the area where her husband and friends had died. How long ago was that? Was it minutes? Hours? Steph felt her sanity slipping from her grasp. The only thing keeping her sane was the cat she gently stroked.

The serene time didn't last long.

Stephanie ran, cat in hand, from the rebels. When they caught sight of her, them ran from her. She had forgotten. She was covered in blood and inhuman tears. She must have terrified them. Steph had no clue why the cat didn't jump out of her arms.

She didn't know why, but five minutes later, she found herself in the corridor where Matthew had died. She wasn't alone.

YOU MONSTER. MY SON!

Matthews mother stood in front of her.

PLEASE! I tried so hard to save him! I was on my way to help you!

Stephanie pleaded with the woman.

I think you've helped enough.

Steph was stunned by the cold remark, by the woman who had always been so loving.

---

Stephanie was outcast by the Patrick's. She had nobody. All she had was the cat.
