The basics is that I'm working on the concept for a somewhat lore heavy game (like Breath of the Wild, where most of the lore is implied) and a recent addition we thought about adding was some form of cryptid.
To define what a cryptid is in games, it is a character that is difficult to find, might have an impact on the player (which I'll go over what I mean) and overall feels unusual in that specific game and mysterious, only accessible by chance or unusual methods so it feels like you're seeing somethingyou shouldn't. For example, Golden Freddy in FNaF 1 is a cryptid but FNaF 2's Golden Freddy isn't since he's on the Custom Night screen but the ghostly abilities feel out of place.
The categories simplified
Feels out of place
Has to be found in a way that is rare so it feels like you shouldn't see it commonly as a WTF
It can just be cosmetic or actually impact the player.
Can be an unexpected location OR character/characters (so no achievements)
Doesn't have to be creepy
Need some examples? I have plenty! We have...
Hell Valley Sky Tree (Super Mario Galaxy 2)

Golden Freddy (FNaF 1)

The Hotel Ghost (Hitman: Contracts)

The Haunted Room (CoD: Finest Hour)

The Ghost of Jolene (GTA 5)

Alien Channel (Animal Crossing New Leaf)

Chris Houlahan's Room (Zelda Link to the Past)

The Forgotten Crypt (WoW)
Fun is Infinite (Sonic CD)
The common Wheeping Angel wannabe (where statues face you when you aren't staring)
Uboa (Yumi Nikki)
