Pig Patch Finger Puppet || OvU Entry 05

Hello everyone!

With week 3 of the Overrated Vs. Underrated Event having come to a close, and the announcement of Team Underrated getting a point boost from craft and cosplays, I decided to start with something simple - finger puppets!

It's a very simple idea as Baby has brought me a lot of pain, consisting of a sprained wrist, several burn wounds from my glue gun, two cuts from lifted staples, and a sprained shoulder, which I worsened by picking up and bathing my 3 dogs.

I was planning on using fun/craft foam, but felt is much easier to deal with ^^'

Materials Used:

• Felt (2mm)

• Glue Gun (+ Glue Sticks)

• Scissors

• Pen & Pencil

• Sewing Needles

Process:

Step 1: Using paper, create a paper template for your finger puppet(s), with a blank body shape and extra pieces for the ears, tail, accessories, etc. (I made a template for a bear, fox, bunny, chicken, and pig)

Step 2: Using your paper template, trace them onto the felt using a pencil/pen. The body template will need two pieces to create a space for your finger. For the ears, you'll need to trace the pattern and then flip it to have the same piece, but one that is clearly right and left. Do the same for the inner ears. The belly, snout, and tail will only need one piece.

Step 3: Now you cut each piece out. I find that the smaller scissors are easier to use as the smaller blade gets the details much better.

Step 4: Using a glue gun, add a very thin line around the belly, making sure to leave space for your finger before placing the mirror piece on top to glue the piece together.

Step 5: Add glue on the arms and squish together, then glue the ears in place and add glue on the rest of the head, squishing that together as well.

Step 6: Add the belly, ear inners, and snout. You can also add a blob of glue in the middle of the ear and fold it over to get the folded ears. Once the main parts are glued on, glue the accessories, which in this scenario are Pig Patch's pants, and for an extra touch from me, his tusks.

Step 7: Since I do not know how to embroider, I used paint to add the details, starting with his eyes, then his cheeks, pupils, nostrils, and eyebrows.

Step 8: I liked how Pig Patch was looking, but he also looked really plain, so I decided to add a stitch layer to create a more "secure" look. It also adds some character.

I also should've waited to start sewing as the paint was still wet and smudged, hence why the final look is so rough -)

Step 9: Using a lighter pink thread, I added a sewn border, going all around the seam and the belly

I plan to do a few more of these, mainly of the Mediocre Melodies, but also for the Rockstars, as I think doing separate craft posts, even if it's a similar idea, would still count as art is the same thing. I also plan on doing Jack-O-Moon's mask. I just gotta plan out the pieces before I can start drawing, cutting, and assembling it -

I also got stabbed twice by the needle, with a third really really close call that would have been pretty bad if it had actually gone into my finger as there was a lot of force behind that push
