This universe has a modern setting, but this roleplays history is kickstarted in the early to mid 1900s from what can be gathered. Majority of collected data has been damaged, so please.. bare with our systems.

It is believed that a museum of oddities and unnatural kickstarted this study. Gathering bones of mermaids, sundried dragon scales, the true horn of a unicorn, fossilized feathers that was removed from something other than a dinosaur. Caravans of witches and travelers began to slowly turn into towns, shops, hippy mobiles as some would call them. The drugs were just a distraction to hide the truth in the crazy untamed spirit of the witches magic. In the very first lab set up for these studies, they learned the possibilities and dangers of this pursuit. Despite the first creation destroying the lab and dissapearing with few others in the middle of a heavy winter, the explosion was blamed on a drunken smoker setting a nearby firework store off its hinges and thus getting too close to the secret lab many dismissed as a paper factory.

Farther down the years, the research has been continued until 30 years ago, another grand explosion took place. All kinds of escaped races and creatures marked as myths escaped these labs all at once, hiding where they could among society. Some accepted them, some feared. It was almost an internal war to allow them to stay, to live among the humans. Stereotypes and children's bedtime stories weren't always so kind to some of these races, but the DND sessions you can bet got pretty heated in a mothers basement or attic.

Currently, things have settled down but the 'critter' as they are labeled are under such strict rules and watch. Self defense could easily be twisted around to them attacking, walking home late can be considered suspicious and reported often. The usage of magic is not tolerated outside of work if it is used specifically for such. Among these few of many rules, regular police are not what takes them away as normal cells wont hold them. Military officers are actually assigned these tasks to help handle these situations accordingly, but the prison they are taken to is back to a lab. Improved and adjusted over the years where they serve their assigned time and if they get out, which is rare, there is only one place that would take them.

The Critters call him Krampus. Taking up the human folklore of a beastly spirit of christmas. But he was the first to escape and lead the first experiments to safety in 'the North Pole'. As it may be called such, it's true destination remains unknown. Not even the human government can find the station of where the Critters dissapear to every Christmas week, or how. Lost records have erased any knowledge of the first, and nobody knows who exactly he or she is. Much less what they look like. For when you do arrive, those that handle the work now are a small group of council who follow their given roles and his direct orders from above.

The North Pole is a whole new realm. A guarded gateway or portal. With the help of magic based technology, they remain invisible to the naked eye and even developed a disposable tool for teleportation. For me to tease you much more, details will be brought out in roleplay. Roles and ideas are welcome to help fill in my holes and even form this mess into somthing a bit more organized. I hope I didn't bore you too much with my madness, I just wish to find the right person to explore this with.
