Sanctuary Hills is one if the most well known places to the player, and is of course the home of the Sole Survivor before the Great War. And it is now the largest city in the north. If you hate lore than you can check out the specifics at the bottom about this build
-Lore-
Sanctuary Hills was founded by the remaining survivors of Quincy, it was the first Minutemen controlled settlement after their original fall, at first it was but a small community obviously with a small population of the Longs, Sturges, Mama Murphy, and Preston. It was a safe haven for them as they have been through so much struggle to survive in the vast and unforgiving wasteland. It first started out as a small town built upon the ruins of the cul-de-sac and as time went on and as the Minutemen grew so did the town. It expanded into the street where the Sole Survivor used to live where a clinic, bar and 2 homes where built. A warehouse was soon built to store the towns power generator. It also stored Sturges home. Before the castle was retaken, the Minutemen used the cul-de-sac of the town as their original headquarters. It had its own situation room, a home for the General, and a bunk house for the soldiers stationed there. The military presence there offered new settlers to move into the small island to live and work with secure protection. Thus right outside the actual town, a city was built. The city of sanctuary differs from its next door neighbor the town of sanctuary. For starters the city was built from the ground up and many settlers lived in small housing with little money being made. The town of sanctuary was much wealthier and had less settlers in it and is build from the remains of the pre war houses.
After the castle was retaken the Minutemen packed their classified documents and went to the castle leaving it to the town to do as they please with the Generals mansion. And so they turned it into the governors mansion for each year the town of sanctuary elects a governor to lead and represent the town. The mansion was an expensive project costing a lot of caps to haul the materials from caravans, and the time it took to build was just as tedious as they had to hire a lot of workers to build the mansion. And not to mention the Generals retirement house, a home built from the ruins of the sole survivors home and transformed into a home for each General after they retired.
