Artlings - September Theme

Hey guys, sorry if this post is super barebones and wordy. my app just doesnt work for some reason so i cant put the artlings banner or just whatever i would have felt like putting in this blog. so uh, i cant really edit and fix image sizes too good either lol so most stuff is gonna be super huge and long. if they work. if not then f me ig. uh if it doesnt work ill just uh... link my instagram lmao so you can see what's up...

but anyway, the theme this month! its exo as bishounen anime guys. i was super excited for this theme because its just everything i always want to do. for those who dont know what bishounen is, i pronounce it like "beh-show-nen" and it just means pretty boy. shounen meaning boy and bi coming from bijin which is beautiful person. ig more accurately he'd be biseinen (say-nen) since he's a man and seinen is man... but semantics...

anyway. okay so, my idea was to try to draw kai (of course) in a style i recently found out i love. not too long ago i tried my hand at watching a donghua (chinese anime) called tian guan ci fu. im sure quite a bit know that show if you like anime and BL. (that one i wont explain--) the art of the manhua is super super pretty and well done and i ire it a ton so i wanted to sort of study it and try to kind of do it in my drawing...

since ive mostly done straight on angles, i thought itd best turn out if i kai just facing forward so i took this reference

i knew that the best way to capture a similar feeling to the manhua would be to do it digitally, but since i have no experience in digital art and also dont have a means to try, i decided to try markers to kind of get that "filled in" feel than the sketchy pencil look. but im also not every great with markers so i combined the two so i could layer slowly. my markers are very opaque which makes it hard to layer so i used my colored pencils to help me tone. so here's one of them if you can even SEE that. and some wips

i also made a second drawing because i thought itd be more interesting, and i dont think it turned out so well. ig im not very good at like the 3/4th view lmao. and i also forgot to take a lot of wips of it, so i have just one. this one i also wasnt the most patient on. i probably should have just done it the next day lmao. as im looking at this next drawing, i realize he accidentally looks like beni from lobelia academy. youd know if youve seen ouran high school host club
