Artlings | Last Summer

         Heya everyone! Chogi here~

         This month's Artlings theme was

Random Word Generator

         This theme made us use a word generator to generate

         three random, unrelated words and create a fanart

         using one or more of those words. The three random

         words I got were...

         I thought I'd combine the two words "glare" and

         "battle" to create a fanart inspired by Baekhyun's

         sultry gaze in the title track of The War album :sparkles: :eyes:

         I know, I know... Using The War in place of "battle"

         is kinda cheating but Byun Baekhyun was serving

         LOOKS that era, how could I not draw him?

         Let's get started!

          First, I sketched out his form and created a more

         polished lineart on top.

        Then, I lowered the opacity of the lineart layer

         and started painting under it. I always spend too

         much time painting the details of his face that it

         completely changes the style from anime-like to

         realism ahsjcdksjd

         That blazer was the bane of my existence; like I

         didn't touch this painting for two weeks because

         of it :confounded:

         Alas, I pulled through and completed the rest of

         the fanart! Lately I've been trying to improve my

         lighting game so I tried experimenting with it ^^

         I named this piece "Last Summer" because

         Baekhyun's wistful gaze and the warm sunshine

         sprinkled on his cheek give me a nostalgic feel~

         Like I'm here missing summer and it ain't even

         over yet 🥺

         This was no doubt my most ambitious project of the

         year -- I usually only do portraits with simple

         backgrounds, so this fanart really forced me to

         step out of my comfort zone and try something I've

         always deemed intimidating.
