"Complementary colors are pairs of colors which, when combined or mixed, cancel each other out (lose hue) by producing a grayscale color like white or black".¹ So I chose red and green for x-mas season. (Then I did a little research and found out that green means eternal life and red represents blood of Jesus Christ).

Thinking further on what these colour mean to me personally, I ed when I was a kid I liked to visit ophthalmologists' because doctor had this book she'd show me everytime... it was actually Ishihara test. You probably saw these before. "It's a color perception test for red-green color deficiencies (color blindness) , the first in a class of successful color vision tests called pseudo-isochromatic plates. It was named after it's designer, Shinobu Ishihara, a professor at the University of Tokyo, who first published his tests in 1917".²

So I thought it would be more interesting to include this element in this month's drawing.

The main reference is from EXO's first winter album's (Miracles in December) photoshot because it has my chosen colors.

I chose Xiumin because of his winter related superpower. Yes, I know, not very original. ╮( ˘_˘ )╭

m i x i n g   c o l o u r s

While coloring, I realised I often mix complementary colors to create shadows or to darken certain areas.

I usually use blue for shadows but this time I picked green.

This is where I applied elements of Ishihara test. Basically I just had to fill the background with circles of different sizes and shades...

But filling it all with one go... my hand starts to hurt even thinking about it. (×﹏×)

After adding few more strokes and adjusting the shape of arc in the background; here's the outcome:
