Let's start this blog by enjoying some KoKoBop-Jongdae-Eyecandy because yes, that is what we are doing today...

That was nice ٩(๑❛ᴗ❛๑)۶

Anyhoops, as you might have already seen, the Artlings' theme this month is >Nature< and what better to use as reference photoshoot than the holy grale of outdoor shoots - the one and only Queen, KoKoBop? The real struggle lay in who to choose though and I spent a loooooot of time trying to decide that. In the end, I went with Jongdae because 1) I absolutely love drawing and painting him, 2) I miss him and it has been a year now since he sent us his amazingly courageous message about his wife and baby, 3) I haven't drawn him in a while, 4) Blondae (๑ ิټ ิ)

I had many, many plans for this piece but had to adjust along the way multiple times. I'm really quite happy with how it turned out, I'm very proud of myself. The last few months I hadn't really posted any elaborate fanarts, more like smaller, easier pieces - which I know is fine. And I really had the urge to create a real, thought through art piece that spoke for itself. This thing took super, super long not only in actual painting and crafting time but also planning. I hope you will like it!!

Before I show you the fanart, I want to talk a bit about my thought process. Before I had even chosen a reference, I was sure of three things I wanted to incorporate in this painting:

• wood as a canvas

• playing with lights

• a 3D factor

↝ As the theme is >Nature< I couldn't help but use a natural canvas as a mean to interpret the theme in one more way. The few times I had done so, I greatly enjoyed painting on wood and I still had some left from a previous art project. So yeah, that's that. I also enjoyed the little holes and unevenness of the wood as opposed to a perfect linen canvas. And before any of you come at me saying "paper is wood too" - I am aware but I think you know what I mean. A wood is more raw nature than a pressed and processed piece of paper :P

↝ Another aspect that is somewhat nature inspired is the lighting of the painting. I don't usually put much thought into that and I didn't push it as far in the end as I maybe would have liked to at first. But I still tried (/•ิ_•ิ)/

↝ Last but not least I was very set on the idea of letting the painting grow out of the canvas, so to speak. I feel like nature is very unbound, free and I figured that by adding more dimension to my canvas I could visualise the plasticity and depth of natural elements. I hope it somehow came across that way hahahahahaha Now let me finally show you the actual piece~

↝ It's a bit of a nightmare to take proper pictures - especially with this little daylight in winter. So forgive me if some things look wonky.

↝ Originally, I had wanted to use fake or dried flowers for this. But then another lockdown happened and all my usual stores for stuff like that were closed. Of course, I could have ordered something online but I don't like the idea of buying flowers online because I wouldn't know in which state they would arrive in and if they were really what I was looking for. That is why I decided to make them myself with paper (cardboard and tissue paper). I think they turned out quite nicely hehehehehe What do you think?

↝ For some reason I also really wanted to paint the sides of the wood gold and I am happy I did because the gold and dark green complement each other really, really nicely.

↝ I am quite in love with Jongdae's expression in the reference photo and although I struggled a long time with getting it right-ish, I still am happy with it now. I also cried tears of joy over how well the hair turned out T^T because hair is my nemesis and for some reason it decided not to ruin my piece this time yay ಥ_ಥ
