Why Do We Ride

Ok so a few days ago, I was talking about horses and riding in one of my classes at school, and this girl who sits next to me asked me, “Do you ride horses just because you like them?” I thought about that later on, and I kept thinking, is that the only reason? Is that all it is? But I told myself, “No.” There are so many reasons that we ride. Not just because we “like” horses. One of my favorite quotes is “We ride to fly. To feel. To laugh. To prove them wrong. To feel strong. To love and to be loved back. We ride to live.” And it’s true. We love what we do, and we love our teammates. Being an equestrian is our ion, our life and love. Our pride and joy. It is who we are, and who we will always be. So no, we don’t ride because we like horses, we ride because it is who we are. And we will never give that up, no matter how many people tell us “it’s not a sport” “it’s a silly hobby” or even “give up on it”. No we will never give up, we will go places in life, us and our horses.
