Okay... so before we get started, here is an update on whimsy. She is doing better but she isnstill on stall rest. She now has a boot on the other foot to help with swelling.

Ok so now onto the actual post...

Hack along! Today’s post: calf muscles

So, let’s talk about the types of stretches first. Then, we will talk about why we use our calf muscles so much and why we need to keep our heels down.

Stretch #1

Before the ride

         The first stretch is one you can do before riding. You simply lean against the fence or a wall and bend your knees. This stretches the back of your calf’s so you can stretch your heels down even farther and be more comfortable in the saddle.

Stretch #2

Wall stretch

             Place your foot up against the wall and lean forward while keeping your leg straight. You’ll feel a stretch behind your knee and in your calf muscle. Hold for as long as you need to in order to feel stretched and then bend your knee while keeping your foot in the same position and repeat.

Stretch #3

Step stretch

                  This is one probably most equestrians have heard of. You simply put the ball of your foot on a step or curb, bend your knees a little bit and put your heels down. It stretches the back of your leg super good and helps you get your heels super down when riding. Personally, I do this every day for 2 minutes on both legs and my heels are super down!
