Memory Challenge

While this memory is technically tied to one of the worst days I've every experienced with horses, it's something that now, I find very important.

While thinking about this challenge and what to pick, my mind imediatly went to Babie Doll. She was my first riding horse and my friend for the 10 years she was with us. However it wasn't until recently that I realized how special our bond truly was.

Babie Doll was one of those, once in a life time horses. She was an amazing and patient horse, who I would credit as the main teacher in me learning to ride. However, I never really realized how close we truly were. I knew she was special, and I felt proud about how far she had gotten me, but in my mind, she could have done that with any rider. In the pasture she would just mind her own business and would not go out of her way to come say hi, unlike some of the other horses.

Although she did tolerate your presence if you went over to here.

It wasn't until that fateful day where we rushed to the vet clinic that I truly learned how close I had actually come with her.

You see, I work at that vet clinic, so when the vet opened the big overhead door, I stepped in ahead of mom and the horse to open the horse stocks so we could walk her in. However Babie Doll would not step inside the building. That was when my mom said to me:

"You take her, she's your horse, she trusts you."

And sure enough I walked back, took her rope, and she followed me inside. I didn't realize how much what my mom had said meant until recently. Our bond truly was special, and going home that night with an empty trailer was one of the worst feelings ever.

Looking back now, I the little things, and what made those days special. I'm grateful for those ten years I spent with Babie, she will always truly have a special place in my heart.
