Tacking up/getting into arena

➻ We arrived at 8:15 in the morning. Once we finished talking to Roany the miniature pony we went to go say hi to Amanda, Niccos owner. She was already tacking him up.

Warmup

➻ Our warm up was just walking around in a 20m circle. After that we trotted a bit. (Also I bought new boots the day before so they were looking snazzy :sunglasses:

Main Activity

➻ So me and Amanda decided that we'd work on leg yields first. So we started to do that in the walk in both directions. Nicco was pretty lazy and required a whole lot of leg. Once we had that down we moved onto doing it in trot. Nicco's trot is huge compared to Bella and Flicka's trot, so I had to get used to that first haha

It was a really great excersise and is perfect for getting a supple horse. Which is one of the top things on the dressage training scale.

Next we moved onto cantering, he has the most beautiful canter and it was so easy to sit to. He was easy to collect and extend as well. We practised downward canter-trot transitions, Amanda taught me how to bring him back without letting him fall into the trot. It was a great excersise also.

Cool down/ untacking

➻ Once we finished that we did a bit of practice with turning on the forehand. He was really good, but again, took a lot of leg 🤣 We then just walked around some trees for a few minutes and untacked him. We then hosed him.

Overall

➻ This was my first lesson on Nicco and with Amanda. She is a great teacher and explains things very easily. I obviously need some more practice on riding Nicco and on dressage in general. But I am so grateful and so excited that I get to go have another next Friday!

E V A L U A T I O N

What went well:

I understood everything Amanda told me and never got left behind. I didn't fall off which is nice. Amanda seemed to enjoy teaching me, which is good!

Improvements:

I need more muscle on my leg and to keep my heels down! Also I need to put my hand s up a little more. But mostly I need more muscle on my legs haha

F A V O U R I T E S

Favourite part of the lesson:

Probably cantering, his canter was just beautiful! Or doing the leg yields, it just felt really cool to feel when he actually brought himself under and engaged himself.

Worst/scariest part:

Umm there wasn't really one 🤷‍♀ Nicco spooked once but it wasn't huge, he only took a few side steps.
