Hey Y’all! Darcy and I finally go to do some 3’ jumps! Ik very exited so let’s get into it.

Warm Up

I started off by lunging her. She was quite wild as the horses have not been able to go in their pastures due to bad weather. After letting her play around a bit I got on. I did the usual trotting with lost of circles and continued to work on her frame. I won’t bore y’all with the details. Then we did some cantering and she was very nice and light in my hand. We did some canter pole bounces and they went much smoother than the ones we did on Saturday.

Activities

We warmed up with a two jumps on the diagonal. The first was about 2’6 and the second was a solid 3’. I kinda thought for a minute “are we really gonna jump that,” but then she didn’t change it so off we went. The first jump was a little long, especially for the first fence. I was struggling to recollect her for the second fence. Fun fact about Darcy, if she fence high changes dramatically, say 2’6 to 3’, she will always knock the first fence. We don’t know why, but she does it and then doesn’t touch another one. I set it up quite badly so we chipped and of course we knocked it. We went around to the smaller fence again which she way overjumped, but she distance was quieter, and then came around again and found a nice stride.

Now we were onto a course. We started with the small vertical going the other way. It was pretty nice. Then we went around a long approach to an oxar. This was my favorite jump of the lesson. It showed up perfectly and she jumped it great. I then tried to rebalance her as we had a difficult left turn coming up. The distance was a bit quiet, but we made it work. Next was the hardest fence. It was an awkward left turn that was hard to find a stride in. I came around and didn’t see anything, so it was quite deep.

After taking a short break we tried the last two again. This time I nailed the first one, finding the perfect stride, but we chased the second one and it was long. We came around again and this time I changed my track and rode more inside. The distance showed right up, but she unfortunately swapped.

Cool Down

I chatted with my trainer and walked her for a few minutes before getting off.

out

While it wasn’t our best performance, mostly because she just wasn’t feeling it, we did reach a new hight together, so that’s super exiting!! I can’t wait for my next lesson and I hope I can jump big again :smirk:

She has such a great big reach with her front legs! I love that! That’s great in a young horse especially because they’re less likely to knock show rails in the future! Great work! :raised_hands:
