Hey EA! I recently started working with another horse temporarily until his human comes back to live locally again. This guy is named Happy and he is definitely not so happy about 75% of the time. (The other 25% he is a big sweetheart) I have only had a couple sessions with him, but I think he is the cutest and I really adore him so far!
Happy is a 13 year old saddlebred gelding who came from a show barn near my area. Unfortunately, Happy broke his tail and was unable to show. His owners were going to keep him just because they loved him, but after his accident he shut down and became a completely different horse. The mother of his former human decided he was too unpredictable and not safe for the younger girl, so he came to my barn. That was in March of 2020. Now, he is definitely still unpredictable but he is getting better in of bucking, rearing, and bolting.
I am so excited to be able to work with him as I just truly love his honesty. Happy is very expressive of how he is feeling most of the time. He’s just an animated horse all around, and I really enjoy that about him.

In my first few sessions I have just been working on standing at the mounting block and relaxing overall. I find it easier to work on one task that is connected to the bigger idea (standing at block connects to relaxation) as it helps my horse focus better and does help advance toward the bigger goal I have in mind. Happy says he doesn’t trust my judgement and would much rather lead himself...

Anyways that’s all I have to say about Happy at the moment! I’m looking forward to everything he can teach me and only hope to better his life as well. Thank you for reading and have a great day/night! :)
