Tacking up/getting into arena

➻ Last Saturday, I had earned enough hours (hours of how much work I do for my barn) to do a free ride. Each free ride is worth 4 hours, and I had six. I was super excited, not to mention me and my friend planned to ride bareback together! When I got there, I checked the list, but this time looked at who wasn’t being ridden. If your doing a work ride, you get the horses that are left. Lessons get horses picked first. Vino was one of the horses left, so I decided to ride her. I tacked her up in her stall quickly, and messaged my friend because she still wasn’t there. Turns out, we got times mixed up, so I decided to ride before her since I was all ready.

Warmup

➻ Vino was surprisingly bouncy (you never know how bouncy a horse is until you ride them bareback :joy: ), so my warmup wasn’t very productive. I actually ended up hopping off to grab a saddle, as she was not comfortable to ride bareback at all. I did a quicker warmup, did a few serpentines, and kind of just rode around. When doing a free ride, an instructor doesn’t teach you, so your just kind of left to do whatever you want.

Main Activity

➻ My main activity was jumping, like usual. I got together with two other girls who were riding their own horses in a free ride, and we made a course. We did some small warmup jumps, and then did I really fun course! I did knock down the back rail of the oxer though :cry: . Overall, I had a fantastic time jumping. Our course was about 2’6-3’0, and Vino was super good!

Cool down/ untacking

➻ Vino can’t be cross tied, as she’ll sit back, so when I went to shower her, I walked her in and had her stand backwards (she’s more comfortable looking at the pasture, not the barn aisle) and hosed her down. She wasn’t too sweaty, but I did graze her for a while afterwards, just to give her a little more time to cool off. It when turned her out to her pasture, and I was set to go!

Overall

➻ Overall, I had a wonderful ride, and really enjoyed riding Vino (it was only my second time on her). I really hope I can do something similar again soon!
