Hey there EA!

Welcome back to another blog! I have another lesson coming up very, VERY soon so stay tuned for that post! As wished, I got to ride Gambler again and I believe on my next lesson I will be riding him again, if not I will ride Pidge who I’m very excited to meet! Anyways, without further ado let’s get into this blog.

Tacking Up

Luckily for me, Gambler just so happened to be in his stall so getting him wasn’t hard at all. Recently my instructor moved all her horses to the back barn, or at least most of them, so that’s where he was kept and that’s where I had to go. We also moved all the tack to a shed nearby the back barn and turned the old tack room into a bathroom! So, there’s a few changes. So I got Gambler out of his stall and tied him up at the post. I gave him a quick brush down because he wasn’t that dirty and then picked out his hooves before getting him tacked up. I used the usual saddle pad I ride him with, and then moved to a different saddle! I personally really like the new saddle I’m using, it’s very comfortable and has a beautiful pink designed breastplate :D I think Gambler likes it a lot better than the last one as well, the old one was very heavy. Sadly with my health conditions, I’ve lost a lot of weight as well as muscle so I had to get Kayla to help me put on the saddle but I’m working on getting it all back.

The Ride

I’m happy to say this ride went pretty smooth! Gambler was such an amazing horse throughout the lesson. For our warmup we walked about two laps around the whole arena, then did one lap of trotting, and a few laps of loping. I had the choice of either continuing to do that for the rest of the lesson or work on barrels, and since Gambler was so calm and doing great I decided to work on barrels. Since it’s been about… 6 months since I’ve ridden we took things slow to see what I ed and I’m very happy to say it went well! I walked the barrels once, then trotted the pattern twice, and finally got into a lope which we ran a couple of times before I decided to work on trotting it. For the cool down we walked the pattern and then walked the arena about two times before dismounting and heading back. (Sadly I didn’t get any photos or videos of this lesson :( )

The untacking process was pretty basic. It was cool that day so I didn’t wash him down, I just removed his saddle and saddle pad, then gave him a few treats and turned him out to the pasture.
