Ardennes horses or Ardennais horses are a type of draft horse and originates from the Ardennes area in Belgium, Luxembourg and . They are heavy boned with thick legs and are used for draft work!

The history behind them

There history reaches back to Ancient Rome and throughout the years blood from several other breeds have been added to the Ardennes! The first Ardennes horse was imported to the U.S in the 20th century! The horses have been used as war horses throughout history both as cavalry mounts to draw artillery and used today for draft and farm work and competitive driving events. They have also been used to influence and create other breeds throughout Europe and Asia.

They are one of the oldest breeds of draft horses. The average Ardennes weighs up to 1500 to 2200 pounds! The Ardennes ranges between 15 hands to 16 hands where most breeds range between 13 hands to 14 hands! The most common colors of Ardennes is Chestnut, grey, palomino and roan! Black Ardennes are very rare and are not allowed to be ed with the breed registry!
