BIOGRAPHY

Senku Ishigami is the main protagonist of Dr. Stone, and is friends with Taiju Oki and Yuzuriha Ogawa. He is known for his catchphrases, one of which is "Ten Billion Percent." He was de-petrified half a year before Taiju, and eventually created the Stone Formula with Taiju's help. In the Z=1 Stone World, Senku wants to rebuild civilization and establish a Kingdom of Science.

He was the first-prize champion in the village games, and currently holds the title of Village chief in Ishigami Village.

APPEARANCE

Senku is a young male with an average build. His characteristic hair has two bangs going across his eyes and the rest sprays up, like a plant. His hair is a light, dirty blonde with dark green tips. He has red eyes. After his de-petrification, he has two diagonal marks reflected against each other on top of the beginning of his eyebrows.

His clothing remains the same. Before the Stone Apocalypse, he wore his school uniform. In the Z=1 Stone World, he switched to wearing animal skin clothing in a rudimentary manner. After Yuzuriha's de-petrification, he gets a clothing redesign. He wears the same animal skin, but this time in a caveman style, patched up in a better manner. Albert Einstein's mass–energy equivalence formula (E=mc²) is printed across the front of his clothes, serving as a "motto".

PERSONALITY

Senku has an over-the-top attitude that comes in the form of comedy and leadership. He is confident in himself and has the ability to back it up. Even so, he never lets his confidence clouds his judgment or belittles those around him. Rather, he serves as a source of encouragement and inspiration to everyone around him. Also, while he loves flaunting his intelligence and looking down on those less intelligent than himself, he acknowledges the achievements of those around him and understands that despite his high intellect, he cannot survive alone. Because of his wits and his caring nature, people tend to gather around him colleagues and ers alike.

He loves to use his intelligence and knowledge to screw others around, demonstrating a playful childish aspect to his otherwise mature intelligent personality. He is a deadpan snarker with a quick witted dry sense of humor, often making jokes or acting sarcastic at the expense of others. He tends to tease or playfully insult his friends. However, he is capable of acting quite nice to his allies, making glasses for Suika and Chrome and helping find a cure for Ruri's disease.

Although he has a strong sense of justice, he doesn't let the rules dictate his actions and can be cunning at times to get what he wants. He often acts as if he builds inventions and uses people for his own interests and in the name of science, but beneath his arrogance and manipulative nature lies a genuinely kind heart. He goes against Tsukasa, stating he would use science for the sake of saving the seven billion people petrified.

In a flashback, when asked who he would choose between saving himself, his friend or his lover, he answered he would find a way to save everyone. He proves this true when he chooses to "sacrifice" himself to save his friend Yuzuriha from Tsukasa at the cost of revealing to him the ingredients and process for the elixir that would de-petrify the stone statues. He is a man loyal to his friends, family and allies. Similarly, he built an automobile for the express purpose of being able to transport the elderly with limited mobility despite claiming he did it for the sake of faster travel to the enemy headquarters. He was even willingly going to walk into a very obvious trap set by Tsukasa to save Chrome (as Tsukasa knew he would never abandon his friends) though luckily Chrome cleverly managed to escape on his own. Similarly, he claims to give Homura (Hyoga's spy for the Empire of Might) some cotton candy as a small step to getting her to switch sides. However, Ruri hypothesizes that he did so because she was a girl alone in enemy territory and he wanted to make her feel a little less scared. Also, despite his arrogant attitude, he deeply treasures his friends and family. He also loved his adopted father deeply, having ed his father's dream of being an astronaut by building him a suit in the hopes of helping him overcome his swimming problems (though Senku's adopted father learned to swim on his own and used Senku's enthusiasm as encouragement towards his dream) and shed a few tears upon visiting his gravesite, though he quickly picked himself up.

As a charismatic intelligent leader, he is shown to have a deep understanding of his friends' personalities and abilities, managing to motivate them and use then to his advantage (though he is not as manipulative and socially intelligent as Gen) and having faith in their abilities to complete the needed tasks. He uses Taiju's stamina to help him do the grunt work during their experiments to create the de petrification elixir. Similarly, he was able to appeal to Ukyo's desire to stop more deaths, Nikki's fan devotion to the singer Lilian, Minami's abilities as a reporter, and Ryusei's abilities as a sailor to get them to work for him using their abilities to his advantage. Similarly, when he sacrificed himself to save Yuzuriya and hgad his neck snapped by Tsukasa, he had faith Taiju and yuzuriya would be able to decipher his hints (i.e. cracking his neck as a habit) to realize he had his neck partially petrified so they could use the de petrification formula to revive him. This also makes him a good judge of character, as he was able to tell Tsukasa would eventually betray them and form his own faction due to his extreme beliefs and understands that Magma (who had been his enemy previously) no longer wanted to murder him and trusted him enough to go in an isolated cave with only himself, Chrome and Magma to gather supplies.

Senku strongly believes in science, believing that there is nothing science cannot solve but that science is a steady process that is a pain in the ass long process of understanding the rules behind the phenomenon. He refuses to lie about anything regarding science, as Tsukasa asked if Senku would promise to quit pursuing science and Tsukasa would not kill him, Senku flat out refused. He will never lie when it comes to the capabilities of science (partially due to his own straightforward personality). Similarly, when attempting to sway others to his side, he does not lie about what he is capable of or what he possesses and never breaks a promise, as shown when he learns Nikki is a fan of Lilian the singer and shows her one of Lilian's songs that was preserved. When she asks if there are more, rather than lie to get her to his side, he flat out its it is the only copy of her song but promises her that he will protect it and that her legacy lives, which is enough to convince Nikki over to his side. Similarly, he promises Ukyo a bloodless war to convince him to change sides. Gen points out he is bad at negotiations as he goes straight in laying out his cards and being brutally honest about what he possesses and can offer rather than try to manipulate or trick the other side.

Despite his honest nature, he is capable of being a devil and manipulating others such as creating a phone and placing it in the Empire of Might to broadcast a song of Lilian to claim she is alive and that the US forces are building a navy to save everyone in order to break the Empire of Might within so they will defect without blood shed or lives lost. Even then, his intentions are good.

A running gag of the series is that most (if not almost all) of his experiments require strenuous physical and manual labor. He will often lie (or hide how much work an invention is by showing the easier parts and tasks of constructing the invention) before revealing that the experiment requires a great amount of work, shocking and annoying those around him (especially since they have to be the ones to prove the physical labor) such as having Kohaku Suika and Chrome help him burn iron only to reveal that they would have to suffer pumping air in an extremely hot sweltering oven for a few hours before they could reach the required temperature or telling Gen to assemble a part for an invention only to state he needs 800.

Senku is perseverant in his endeavors, having worked solo for six months initially in creating the de-petrification elixir. He also has the habit of saying "ten billion percent chance" as his catchphrase for when he is sure of something. He loves science and particularly loves to create new inventions. He will also use his accomplishments and inventions to win people to his side, such as recreating ramen from scratch to win over some of the villagers to help him in his process to make iron. He tends to be conniving and straight forward in his opinions, which gets on the nerves of some of his friends and makes him a terrible negotiator. Nonetheless, his intelligence, charisma, and comion for his friends allows him to win many allies and even move some of his enemies, most notably Tsukasa.

On a side note, Senku Ishigami shows very little interest (or even outright aversion) to romantic love. He shows disgust when, after saving Kohaku, she claims to have fallen in love with him. Similarly, when he accidentally wins the village tournament and becomes chief of the village and marries Ruri, he surprises everyone by divorcing Ruri immediately (but still helping to create a cure for her illness).

Intelligence

Senku Ishigami is a genius with a vast amount of scientific knowledge. He is able to invent various kinds of tools and gadgets in a short amount of time with ease. As a child, he designed and built a functioning miniature rocket ship. Senku also possesses an analytical mind, being able to correctly discern the situation he is in. Even in his pre-teens, he was sharp-minded enough to create advanced machines. He has his limits, as he its he isn't a vehicle architect.

Physical Abilities

Senku has no outstanding physical traits, and he would lose against someone like Kohaku in a brawl, something he himself its. He is also very vulnerable to hypothermia, only being able to withstand cold water for a short amount of time.

Trivia

Senku's name is composed of "sen" (千,thousand) and "kū" (空, sky) to create Senkū (Thousand Sky), while Ishigami is composed of "ishi" (石, stone) and "kami"(神, god) to create Ishigami (Stone God).

Senku is allergic to lacquer. It causes his face and lips to puff up.

Senku ranked 1st place in the 1st and 2nd Character Popularity Polls.

He is shown to not be a good cook. While he knows the process of how to make food, most of the time the more complicated food does not taste good. While he was able to make cotton candy and cola, more complicated foods such as wine, ramen and bread proved to be terrible tasting.

Senku has shown knowledge in chemistry, physics, engineering, geology, biology and mathematics. In addition, he has enough medical expertise to save Gen through blood transfusion, create aspirin and accurately diagnose and cure Ruri of her pneumonia, and cryogenically preserve Tsukasa until they could find a proper cure for his injuries.
