Because I'm realizing that I hardly did any dragon drawings during all of last month for Artfight, I've decided to try out Smaugust this time and have some motivation from prompts!
I never really liked how Christopher drew his dragons in all honesty. It was clear that he had skill, but it just looked too horse-like for me, and I disliked the lack of horns and the lack of a full body design. It wasn't how I ever envisioned her in my mind. I also didn't like the movie version very much, looking back at it now, it's okay, but I still disagree with the feathered wings, as that is not how she is described in the book. I tried to keep it close to how I envisioned her as a middle schooler, when I first read the books, as well as including faint nods to the original designs from both the movie and the book. I always envisioned their orbs as being embedded in their chest like this. I think I originally got the idea from the Dragon Lullaby video on YouTube.
