I was greatly influenced by my Dad for my ion for Dota. Although he didn't directly teach me how to play the game, I used to watch him play the DoTA mod when I was a around 5-7 years old. I was always curious about the game. As I grew older, I was eager to learn why and how could Dota possibly be so addicting.

During my highschool years, I was quite the potato (lol). I could barely fit with any group of people til I found my type of friends which I still hang around with until now. Being an awkward ugly duckling, I didn't get along much with girls. Instead my bffs became guys that shared the same crappy preferences with me, including ofc Dota. I would often ask them to bring me with them to the internet cafès to teach me how to play Dota 1, however I couldn't quite catch up with their pace of playing. I felt pretty much miserable not being able to comprehend the game mechanics as fast as I thought I would. Zeus and Huskar were my most used heroes then because of how op they were (lmao).
I still had someone patiently teaching me even with my noobiness. Gradually, I made some progress with button smashing. Sooner on as I was introduced to Dota 2 during my last year of high school and I was amazed by how complicated yet fun it was. Should've known how much time and money I would eventually waste on it, tho.

As some of you might know, I'm currently attending college taking up an Allied Health course. Consequently, I should have less time to do "fun stuff" (like Dota) because of boring school obligations.
I promised myself I would put all my focus on studying this year, especially having professional subjects. Unfortunately, the uni I go to is surrounded by internet cafès EVERYWHERE. Sometimes in a week, we don't have profs attending lectures so we get hours of spare time to do whatever. Since I have an international battle I'm so stressed out to make it reach 150, I spend break times wagering the sht out of my coins while trying to complete quests. Thankfully, because of my frequent visits to a favourite nearby internet cafè, the friendly owner saves my usual spot I grind my ass off for either mmr or bp levels.
To Sum It All Up...
Dota has become one of my ions. I love it for every single reason I should hate it. Yes, there are always games I get tilted beyond limits, but after some time I'd always get back to that damned Steam icon. As some people say, I could have used my time and savings for "better things than in game items", but honestly I have no regrets.
In my opinion, the common stereotype of games being a distraction/ hindrance to doing productive things is false; it is the choices we make with ourselves. With that being said, Dota has been a positive impact to myself. Currently I can say I'm doing pretty well balancing my studies and other priorities along with Dota.
