Wilson lifted his head from the ground, feeling dazed. His head was throbbing and for a moment he forgot where he was. As he slowly got to his feet, the memories flooded back. Well, a few of them anyway. Everyone from camp, Wortox, Wurt, Wes, everyone, was geared up to fight another beast of the Constant. Everything was going well at first. At the time, Wilson thought they were going to win. But after a bright flash of light, after hearing everyone scream in terror as they ran away from the light...

Wilson couldn't anything past that. The scientist looked around him. He was underground and strangely alone. "Guys...?" Wilson called out into the darkness. No answer came back. "Where are you...?" He called out again. Once more, there was nothing.

"Just left me behind, huh?" Wilson thought as he fumbled around in his pockets for a torch. Wilson was suprised to find that his pockets were completely empty. Wilson looked around for his backpack and found that even that was gone. "Did they seriously take my stuff and leave me to die here?!" Wilson let out a huff and started picking saplings and grass to make another torch, something he'd done ever since he arrived in this godforsaken place.

As Wilson traversed his way through the caves, his sanity started to dip. The longer he walked between the heavy dark and the fading light, his vision distorted. "Not again..." Trying to think clearly was becoming difficult and with every step he took he hoped he would find an exit.

Wilson clutched at his hair and shut his eyes, trying desperately to ignore the faint outline of a Crawling Horror. His headache turned into a painful migraine from all the inaudible voices in his brain. When Wilson managed to open his eyes he caught himself from falling into the abyss. Wilson took a stumble back when suddenly

*Squeak*

Wilson whipped around to find a familiar face. Burn marks, a ripped ear, a missing eye. It was Bernie, Willow's childhood buddy. "Oh! S-sorry..." The Scientist picked up the teddy bear from under his foot, not noticing the tick-like shadow coming up from behind him.

Without any warning, Bernie leapt out of Wilson's grasp and before Wilson could comprehend what had happened, the plushie grew. Taller, and taller, and taller still. Despite seeing Bernie become giant before, he still couldn't get over how both whimsical and befuddling this form was. Out of a hole in its chest, something fell to the ground. Ignoring the loud squeaking echoing off the walls, Wilson dashed to grab the thing and ran with it back to the nearest exit.

Wilson practically leapt out of the entrance to the caves, expecting to see proper sunlight again. Instead, he was greeted with the sun leaving him behind. Wilson almost swore until he looked down at the thing he had in his hands. Willow's lighter. There wasn't much lighter fluid left. He had to be quick and find something combustible. That wasn't going to be easy seeing as he was in the middle of the rock biome.

Wilson ran as fast as his legs could carry him, the rough turf unfortunately slowing him down slightly. Bernie's squeaky and stuffy footsteps could be heard closely behind the scientist.

5... He ed multiple rocks with gold veins.

4... Buzzards flew away as Wilson sped past.

3... the flint scattered about gave a dull luster from the lighter's tiny flame.

2... Wilson finally got to lush, green forest ground.

1... The long life of a pine tree was sacrificed to the flames.

Wilson stepped back to catch his breath. Hands on his knees, he let out a splutter. Exercise wasn't really his thing. After a few more seconds of panting and wheezing, Wilson composed himself, taking a glance up at the burning evergreen. "Oh no..." he whispered. The Evergreen just so happened to be close by others of its kind. A little too close.

Wilson stood there with a guilty look on his face as he watched the flames quickly spread to the others. "Um... More charcoal for me, I guess."

The scientist turned to see Bernie's towering figure beside him. The plushie swayed side to side slightly, seemingly hypnotized by the inferno in front of it. Wilson turned back to watch the firey chaos he had created. Wilson ed something his friend had said. Something he was never able to understand before. Hearing her say that phrase time and time again just made him want to say back "How? How could you possibly think that?".

But now he got what she meant. He didn't get the same amount of adrenaline she got when doing something like this, but he definitely felt something there. A little satisfaction from his "work".

To nobody in particular, Wilson said:

"Willow was right. Some things do look prettier when they burn."

:fire:

Little story I made for my Grieving Scientist AU. People have told me that I'm very good at story writing but when I finished this, it was after a few months. Story writing is pretty difficult and reading over it, I think it's quite sloppy near the end. I was planning on making more stories detailing Wilson finding the other companions but I don't think I'll find the motivation to do so.

I still hope you all enjoyed this read.
