I am currently playing the White Rabbit in an original play called Malice in Wonderland. I have recently been promoted to co-costume designer and I have also been doing a lot of tech work for this show.
The play will be performed inside a bookstore. The audience will walk around the store, and there will be tiny doors hidden throughout the bookstore that they can open and look into. There will be a scene from Wonderland inside each door. I have been working on doors and the scenes that will go inside them.
Today at rehearsal was my best performance as the White Rabbit yet. Previously, I was nervous at rehearsal because I was putting pressure on myself to do a good job. Going to rehearsal felt more like taking a test at school than something fun. It is certainly not a bad thing to take rehearsals seriously, but I do think that it severely affects the quality of my performance. Today before rehearsal, I told myself to look forward to going and to have fun. It changed so much. I felt good performing, and my directors didn’t have any notes for me except “keep doing that” which is REALLY good!! I cannot wait to perform this play! I’m certainly going to miss playing the White Rabbit.
