War has not been an uncommon thing in the world. Demon's Realm is no exception.
The air has always been tense between the Factions. There was always the constant threat of fighting among them. But a war broke out that nobody would have expected, a war to change the realm forever. This war was to declare who had the right to own and control the realm, and became known as the War of the Throne.
The War lasted for years on end, until, after some decade, the different factions eventually struck eachother down, the War ending in a bloody defeat across the realm.
The (at the time) current leader of the realm was named Realm. Throughout the War, she had sustained many injuries and became weaker and weaker.
In her state of weakness, Realm was suddenly attacked by an evil entity known as Maris. Maris killed Realm, and assumed the role of Realm Leader. With this new position, Maris began to reshape the realm in her own twisted ideals.
Resources became drained and people became malnourished. Villages, towns, cities, whole kingdoms fell in to ruin, losing all forms of humanity as every individual had to fight just to survive until the next morning.
The Realm itself changed as well. The sky was constantly overcast by grey twisting clouds, and the grass and leaves were always a faded dull color. Trees and forests became choked with black vines where the monsters of Maris' creation dwelled, and her ravages roamed the land uncontrolled.
Desperate for a change, heroes rose up to defeat Maris. Attempt after attempt, the realm soon was drained of its heroes as they each were struck down one by one.
Maris knew that her world order would soon become useless when the realm all died out. So, to keep her fun going, she faded away for a few centuries, letting new rulers take command and restore the realm. But, after every couple hundred years, Maris would return, and continue to torment the people of Demons Realm.
Legends and stories of Maris and her wicked ways were ed down generation after generation, and she soon became a well known horror to the inhabitants of Demons Realm. But this soon became mixed up with all of the tradition and lore of the realm. Children would dress up as Maris during Halloween, and stories about her would be told to naughty children.
Maris had grown tired of being a simple legend. She decided it was time to show the realm who she really was.
Do once again, Maris returned to ruin Demons Realm, restoring her Perfect World Order.
And so this cycle continued, and it continues to continue, and will continue to continue until a new hero rises and strikes her down.
But the hero the realm needs in these dire times may never come.
