using just about anything will help advance masteries. you don't have to be an optimal, efficiency-obsessed player. simply playing around with everything and enjoying the game lets you acquire masteries so feel free to do whatever you want

armor tip: you don't have to create the full set of armor of a certain behemoth. it's better to look at the armor piece's effect and (if you're willing to put in the extra effort) look up their cell slot type and only make armor you actually want. only time you should wear a behemoth's full set of armor is when you want to increase behemoth mastery or have particular difficulty fighting stronger versions of said behemoth, as their armor usually gives specific effects that help in fighting them

I hope you are enjoying the game and getting to grips with how the combat works.

As for tips, pick a weapon type you enjoy, have fun with or can do really well with. Set out to make a few different element types of that weapon since going against a behemoth with its elemental weakness will result in an easier and or quicker hunt.

Find skills/perks on armor that you like or feel make the weapons you use more fun, survival less difficult or simply let you take the behemoth down very fast.

At the very start you won’t have alot of Cells(which are gems that can slot into armor) and the ones you get might not seem that useful. However, even not great cells is generally better than not using them.
