i. Intro

Those of you who know me either know what this will be or are going "goddammit max, what is it this time?"

Hello! My name is Max. A couple facts about myself that will prove relevant to this post: I am a bisexual trans man. In other words, I'm a guy who, yes, likes to kiss guys when I feel like it. (I promise this is important). And today I'll be telling you about a massive problem that not only plagues this community, but a ton of others as well. This topic is very important to me, so I do hope that you will all listen.

What the fuck am I talking about?

This problem is fujoshis.

"What's a fujoshi?"

"Fujoshi" is a japanese term for a straight girl who fetishizes mlm (men loving men).

Fetishize is defined as:

•make (something) the object of a sexual fetish.

•have an excessive and irrational commitment to or obsession with (something).

BEFORE YOU RUN AWAY!!! PLEASE AT LEAST LET ME EXPLAIN WHY THIS IS AN ISSUE.

iii. Why is it a problem?

Many of you are probably asking: "what's wrong with shipping guys with guys?" And the answer is nothing! But when it escalates to fujoshi levels, which it often does, things get... Bad.

Fujoshis get so caught up in their obsession with gay men, that they forget how healthy relationships work. Unhealthy and abusive ships are spotlighted, p*dophilic or inc*stuous ships are squealed over, and real people are shipped with each other!

"Well, what if it's a healthy and strictly fictional relationship?"

That's great! But there can still be problems. Characters are reduced to nothing but "my gay bbs uwu", straight ships are hated on simply for being straight, lesbians are kicked to the curb, it's just an entire mess.

"So what? I like what I like! My ships don't affect anybody!"

That's where you're wrong, buddy!

Myself and every mlm I've spoken to about this all agree: Fujoshis Make Us Horribly Uncomfortable. We don't want to participate in roleplays or communities where there's a bunch of 14 year old girls drooling over the idea of a man kissing a man. Then portraying it as "I'm such a sinner XDD". Promoting unhealthy relationships and erasing a character's complexity for "gay" to be their only personality trait for some sort of "sinful pleasure" or whatever is fucking gross.

iv. What can be done to fix it?

Now this I'm no expert on. I don't want to suggest restricting speech even further, because that would only piss fujoshis off and the point would be completely lost. It would just be a much nicer place if we toned down the nut-o-meter a good chunk. Maybe give straight and lesbian ships a thought. Don't shit on ships because "___ IS GAY AND IS DATING ___". Before promoting something, maybe think, "hey, is this unhealthy or disrespectful?" It may sound a bit stupid, but I feel like if we put in the effort it could make a noticable change.
