Dear readers,
This issue is going to be a special one! As the year closes, the CMCA Staff would like to commemorate those who have helped the Amino get this far, such as current (and past) leaders, current (and past) curators, and active club . The Amino opened this year, so we would like to thank those who contributed to CMCA, including [YOU|ndc://-me]: our community !
This Amino was created with the purpose of being a safe place to share and learn about cultures around the world. We are happy to say that CMCA has fulfilled its purpose so far! Cheers to many more days to come that we hope you will stay with us!

There are some many things I want to say
So many things
But I can’t say it
I don’t know how to say it

But they won’t come out
I guess their afraid just like me

There is so much pain built up inside of me
I don’t know...I can’t even explain or begin to tell you how it feels
If I tell you it feels like been crushed by tons, it would be a lie
Its too much for me to take
What to do with this pain?

At this point I’m about to explode!

Then I found music
And for someone at the edge of a cliff one foot off

As it ministered to me I questioned myself?
Who am I ?
What is my purpose?
Am I loving myself enough?

Or is it that I took the musicians personalities
And became what I think was me?
Ha ha.

Mardi Gras

Mardi Gras, or Fat Tuesday, is celebrated in southern Louisiana, USA. It is most known to be celebrated in the city of New Orleans. Beginning on Jan. 6, events leading up to Mardi Gras, called Carnival, begin with elaborate balls, which are invitation only. About two weeks before Mardi Gras day, parades take place. These celebrations increase in intensity the closer it gets to Ash Wednesday, which is when Lent begins. Lent is the preparation for Easter. Some people who celebrate Lent fast during the season, so the day before it begins, they eat a lot. Some popular dishes are King Cake, Jambalaya, sandwiches known as Po Boys, Beignets, and cocktail drinks called Hurricane.
During the parades beads, cups, doubloons, and stuffed animals are sometimes tossed from the elaborate floats to the onlookers. Some other ways ways people celebrate are by collecting beads, dres in costumes, and observing the local street art and jazz music.
All of these parties and parades end exactly at midnight on the day of Mardi Gras, when Lent arrives.

Three Kings’ Day

Also known as Epiphany or Theophany, Three Kings’ Day is a day for Christians throughout Latin America, Spain, the Caribbean, and many Latinos in the U.S. to celebrate the night the Three Kings (or Wise Men) witnessed the birth of Jesus. According to the Bible, the story of the Wise Men is that on the night of Jesus Christ’s birth, they saw a bright star—the North Star—and followed it for twelve days to the city of Bethlehem. These twelve days are also celebrated as the “Twelve Days of Christmas.” The star led them to Jesus, and they gifted the newborn baby with gold, frankincense, and myrrh.
Three Kings’ Day is celebrated on Jan. 6. Someone who celebrates this holiday might go from house to house caroling, and might take down their Christmas tree. In some areas, the Christmas tree is burned in a big bonfire. The children who celebrate this holiday get to “plündern,” or raid the tree after it is taken down. After doing this, they are rewarded with sweets, chocolate ornaments, or cookies. A popular dish that is prepared for this day is “Rosca de Reyes” (King’s bread). Some people hide a baby Jesus figurine in the bread, and whoever’s slice has the bread must prepare tamales for everyone on Feb. 2, the Day of Candles.
