Small warning- This post is decently long, and has a few harsh words. Oh, and I don't own any of the art used in this post.
A man sprinted through the new York city streets. The way he was carrying himself caused alarm and worry to any who laid their eyes upon them. They knew who he was looking for when his eyes darted from corner to corner in every room he entered. His shouting sounding like crazed ramblings because he only shouted a single word...and that word caused others to be alarmed and take to their feet and search around themselves. Eventually, it seemed as if the entire city had gone mad, everyone shouting that one word. A name? An alter ego? Nickname maybe? Only two people in the entire universe knew the answer, and the man stopped in his tracks. Looking up into the sky and taking in a deep breath- The city was entirely silent as to allow this one man to get the words out...
"SAAAAAAAAM!"
Just one name. Not the one he's been shouting, but it's the name of the other likely person who could possibly know the wearabouts of the seemingly missing person.
Then, in the flutter of a bees wing, a young boy appeared before the crazed man. The boy couldn't be any older than sixteen, yet his eyes seemed to belong to those that have seen generations. The man walked up to the boy, the boy looked down at the floor.
"Where is he."
The man spoke, his voice raspy and very obviously going away from all the shouting.
The boy couldn't look the man in the face. He tried to utter words, like he wanted to speak, but he couldn't. Something was holding him back.
"WHERE IS HE!"
The boy recoiled in shock. The boy, being what he is, has been shouted at, demeaned, bullied...everything for being what he is. Yet, when this man shouted at him...it scared him. The man, upon seeing this, took in another breath and gently rested his hand on the boys shoulder.
"Please...Sammy...where. is. Cosmo..."
The man spoke gently this time. The boy, appreciating this and feeling safer upon the change of behavior finally looked at the man.
"I...you...you know where he is. I'm sorry...but we NEED to have faith in him now...there's nothing we can do about it now...I'm so...sorry-"
The boy teared up upon saying this. He broke a promise, a promise to someone that he thought of like an older brother. He couldn't help it, the boy began to cry, and eventually he began to sob. Falling to his knees, the stress finally getting to him, and all the man could do was look back up into the sky...his face turning a ghastly white as fear gripped his very being. Eventually, news had spread amongst the civilians, friends, and friends of friends, family, EVERYONE knew it just a matter of minutes....the entire world...had fallen silent.
{--Cosmos point of view--}
There he stood, breathless, battered, and beaten amongst the waters at the end of all existence, and before him were two thrones. Upon those two thrones sat two entities. Both being cosmic entities, the one on the left throne was the entity that was responsible for order, and the other was the one responsible for chaos. Both leaned forward in unison. Each clasping their hands together and resting them upon their laps. Upon doing this, Cosmo was forced onto his knees.
"We hear you, and we thought upon your offer. The answer, however, is no. You cannot stop the fate the great one has granted for this universe. You've FAILED as a celestial."
The two entities spoke in unison. Their voices echoing across the vast expanse of creations end as they spoke to Cosmo.
"In fact, in just coming here, you've hastened our judgment. We will erase this universe, restart it. We will erase what you hold dear, and in the end, once nothing but us four remain, we will BREAK you. We will re-mold you into what you're supposed to be. Then, once everything has transpired just as we three have said....Then, we'll see...just how "powerful" your "people" are."
Cosmo began to feel overwhelmed. Thoughts began racing through his head, images from his vivid imagination conjuring up all the possibilities and they all ended in loss...Cosmo could do nothing but tremble as he became a ball of rage, helplessness, and sadness. He began to cry. It was all that he could do. He came her in hopes of helping the people of Earth...and instead he hastened their demise.
"Pathetic. Look at the boy. All he can do is sob onto the ground. He can't even look us in the eyes."
The two entities began to laugh at Cosmo. Mocking him for his emotions which just fanned the flames of rage that began to overtake everything within Cosmo...
Cosmo never considered himself to be powerful. At least, not in the way that matters. Cosmo recalls back to a time long past on Earth. He was lost, misguided, and Confused. All he could cause was destruction upon those that meant him harm. Or at least tried to. Since creation, Cosmo knew that he couldn't be "killed" in any way the humans could attempt, and they knew that. Yet still, they came at him. Challenging Cosmo in a battle of ehich death would be the only way out. Everyone seemed so...POWERFUL to him. Days began to , days becoming weeks, weeks becoming months, then months becoming years, then so on. Then, we come upon a recent date, the day before Cosmo made the decision to come before the three pillars and plea the mortals of the universes case.
Cosmo and Sam both sat in an open field. Beautiful green grass at their feet and a beautiful blue sky overhead. Truly there couldn't have been a more beautiful day.
Cosmo:"Can I tell you something personal Sam?"
Sam:"Of course, what's up bro?"
Cosmo:"Y'know, despite us being what we are, strong...well POWERFUL, y'know...I never actually considered us...TRULY powerful...am I making sense?"
Sam:"Nope!"
Cosmo sighed. He rubbed the back of his head. Running his fingers through his jet black wavy hair as he tried to think.
Cosmo:"Well...like, sure we can do all these amazing things, right? We can stop meteors, we can move at incredible speeds, we can take damage greater than anything we'vecome across so far, but are we TRULY powerful? Whenever we DO come across things that can actually harm us, which is a worrying amount of times we should prolly work on that, we still don't ACTUALLY have to worry. Y'know? If we get damaged enough we'll just go to sleep and wake up who knows when, who knows where, and who knows what time depending on the amount of damage taken. Yet still, we act cautiously. As if anything could really happen to us. Yet, these mortals...these...PEOPLE. Go around without a care sometimes, y'know? They go out and get shit done. Over the many MANY years that I've been on this planet, I've ired every single person that I've come across. I've seen these people overcome impossible odds, I've seen someone go walk through apocalypse itself...JUST FOR ONE PERSON! Can you believe that? These people...they only have one. Single. Life. Yet they go out and do all these things...these incredible things...I ire them intensely...truly there can be no greater power than being...human..."
Sam looked at Cosmo, then moved his gaze to the nearby city that was just below their current spot. He was able to see people clearly, despite the distance. He saw a kid running around, falling, getting hurt, then just getting up more determined to get its task done. As if the fall had fueled something inside. Sure, it looked meaningless, but that simple fall could've ended terribly. Maybe the kid could've broken a bone, or worse...died from the fall. Yet still it moved on without a second thought. Sam nodded his head as he looked back to Cosmo.
Sam:"Y'know what? I think I kinda understand what you're getting at, Cosmo. I've never thought of that before..."
The scene began to melt away from Cosmos mind. Why did it play out? Why did his mind choose that memory out of many others that could've been better? Then, in that moment. He realized it. Cosmo managed to pause for a moment. The way he was acting. It wasn't right...it was even confirmed that he wouldn't even DIE. Chances are that he would forget literally everything, and yet he still acted this way. It was...pathetic. Then, in that moment, a voice began to speak in Cosmos mind. It was the man from the city, Vic, speaking through Sam.
Vic:"Cosmo...Cosmo, are you there? "
Cosmo:"Yeah...yeah I'm here Vic...and I'm...Truthfully, I'm not doing so good..."
Cosmo tried to fight back against his tears. He couldn't let Vic know that he failed, and that aside, he couldn't let Vic hear him act so uncharacteristically. Usually, Cosmo is all smiles, happy and cheerful about the future. Yet, here he is now...
Vic:"Cosmo, I can hear the damn boogers in your nose even while we speak telepathically. Blow your damn nose or something."
Cosmo:"Vic...Vic I'm so sorry...I'm so fucking sorry....I-I couldn't do a single thing. FUCK WHY CANT I DO ANYTHING RIGHT."
Cosmo raised his head and slammed it onto the water so hard that it's property was that of cement. It was as if he were headbutting solid ground. Punishing himself.
Vic paused for a moment. Taking in the information that was given unto him. Cosmos failure meant that...that all life would come to an end. Vic took in a steady breath, then spoke to Cosmo.
Vic:"Then that's that then."
Cosmo:"W-what?"
Vic:"Then that's that. That's it. It's all over for us then."
Cosmo:"yes, I know...I-"
Vic:"So what the fuck are you gonna do about that, hm?"
Cosmo:"Vic I-"
Vic:"you're just gonna sit there and cry? No...no that's not it chief, I'm sorry to say."
Cosmo:"Vic I'm confused...aren't you-"
Vic:"You FAILED, Cosmo. So what? You still have time. So long as we are still here, I KNOW that you have time. Time to right your wrong. It's what humans do, Cosmo. Right. Your. Wrong."
Cosmo:"but I'm not-"
Vic:"Yes Cosmo. You are. Just like me, just like Sammie here, and just like any other person. We aren't perfect. We can only be the best we can be, and do the best we can. That aside. Cosmo, You. Failed. So what are you gonna do about it-?
After a moment of silence, Cosmo took in the first steady breath that he was able to take since coming into this place. Then he and Vic both spoke in unison. The answer obvious to them both.
Vic/Cosmo:"
"Fight."
The ground began to shake around Cosmo, the tremors becoming so violent that the water around him began to move violently as if a violent storm was there. The waves moving so vipently that waves began to form that reached unprecedented heights. The air around all three of them was ELECTRIC. The amount of heat forming around Cosmo was so intense that the air began to spark.
Cosmo:"Forgive me for that pathetic display earlier..."
Cosmo began to stand...
The entities stood up from their thrones, hands outstretched as they tried to force Cosmo back onto his knees.
He did not move back down a single nanometer.
Cosmo:"It appears that I've given you a false sense of safety. I apologies for my...over exaggeration...earlier. please, allow me to reintroduce myself."
The pressure became so intense around all three of the entities. There was something ramping up, as if something were going to happen. Something was in fact, happening....Cosmo was finding himself again.
bright white cracks began to form in the air around Cosmo, and some pieces broke away which allowed intense bright light to shine through the crack.
"I AM COSMO THE RAGING CELESTIAL. I AM THE GUARDIAN OF THE INHABITANTS OF THIS UNIVERSE. MY UNIVERSE, AND I REFUSE TO ALLOW YOU THREE TO HAVE YOUR WAY WITH THIS UNIVERSE FOR EVEN A SECOND LONGER. FACE ME!"
Cosmo outstretched his arms and the two entities looked behind them and into the sky. The amount of power that Cosmo was emanating was enough to awaken the third being...the being of creation.
Two enormous eyes opened in the sky.
Cosmo let loose a wild grin.
