Mental State & Personality

Troubled. Brain damage and medical trauma has left her with severe retrograde amnesia, to the point that she struggles to speak and write. Despite this, she is highly intelligent - if taught, she could easily learn these skills again. She survives alone; homeless in the wilderness, with behavior more reminiscent of an animal than a human. She is also, generally, ive. Her cautious nature keeps her out of trouble, her first instinct is to flee rather than fight, and her food is acquired through foraging, trash-scavenging, and roadkill. Although she has killed humans for food on three separate occasions, all of which occurred in the dead of winter when she was facing death by starvation. She finds no joy in killing for sport.

Basic Appearance

• Underweight. Displays physical signs of malnourishment.

• Pale, taut skin. Caucasian with minimal sun exposure over an extended period.

• Dark brown, straight hair. Long and matted in some places, likely hasn't been maintained in years.

Notable Attributes & Surgeries

         • Consensual Surgery - Her eyes were replaced with tiger eyes following the diagnosis of an extreme degenerative eye disease. Human eyes average an AGL (anterior globe length) between 23 and 25mm. Tigers' have an average AGL of roughly 29mm. Some of her inner eye socket was removed to make room. Augmentation of her eyelids was also performed.

         • Semi-Consensual Surgery - Spinal surgery was performed, leaving a scar that travels from the base of her neck down to her tailbone. Although intended to be purely exploratory, the procedure's outline was changed without Laura's knowledge and several undisclosed alterations and 'additions' were made to and around her spinal system.

          • Semi-Consensual Surgery - Brain (occipital lobe) surgery was performed to fix complications that arose following her eye replacement. Following the procedure's success, Laura was non-consensually subjected to brain stem surgery while still anesthetized, with a focus on the PAG (periaqueductal gray) and limbic system. The extended period under anesthesia, as well as poor conduct from her surgeons, left her with mild, non-permanent brain damage. There is also a scar along the back of her neck, traveling up the base of her skull, from this incident.

         • Non-Consensual Surgery - Without proper time to recover from her previous procedure, Laura was anesthetized again and subject to an extreme removal, alteration, and reconstruction of her nose and sinuses. Her nasal bridge was flattened, extended, and transplanted with several parts from an unknown animal donor's nasal system. Following this reconstruction, minor brain surgery was conducted again, this time altering her ears and auditory cortex. During her recovery it became evident that her brain damage had worsened and was likely permanent to some degree - but aside from that she was healing and responding well to the adjustments being made to her body, so they continued.

         • Non-Consensual Tattoo - 4C41-555241 was printed in bold, basic text at the base of her spine. Hexadecimal, standing for LAURA. "Lethal Apex" - the decided upon term for this experiment, with the intention of creating stronger, 'apex' humans that could be sold to foreign militaries for profit. "Unification & Refinement Archetype" - Seeing as her body was (more or less) responding positively to these procedures, Laura was deemed the archetype going forward. Ultimately, the goal was to successfully unify human bodies and animal donor organs/limbs, with plans to later refine their methods to make the changes easier on the host's mental and physical state.

         • Non-Consensual Surgery - Laura's distal phalanges (finger & toe tips) were removed and replaced with cheetah phalanges to provide her with retractable claws. Only the bones and necessary tendons were added, her fingertips are still wrapped in human flesh, not cheetah skin.

         • Non-Consensual Surgery - As her condition worsened, the team working on Laura grew sloppy. Their intentions with her shifted again, now with a focus on seeing exactly what they could alter, remove, or add, before the human body had enough. During this particular procedure, several of her teeth were removed and replaced with the teeth of multiple different donor animals. She was not properly anesthetized during this event. It has left her with lingering pain and a mouth full of mismatched teeth.

         • Non-Consensual Surgeries - Many other procedures were performed, leaving her with a multitude of scars and worsened brain damage, which has resulted in long-term, potentially permanent retrograde amnesia, and mild anterograde amnesia - which has gradually improved since her escape.

         • She has visible frostbite damage on her ears from being exposed to the elements.

Clothing

Messy. She gets her clothes out of the trash.

Laura wears boots to protect her feet, but they're mismatched and falling apart (layers separating, soles coming off). The left boot is tied with yellow yarn; the laces were missing when she found it. She's always dressed in jeans since the denim material is thick and durable, although it still bears the marks of damage and tearing from daily use. They are oversized, so she ties them up with old rope through whatever belt loops haven't broken yet. One ankle of the jeans is tied up in a similar manner with rope or twine, the other is stuffed into her boot to prevent it from catching and tripping her. She attaches trinkets/anything she thinks is neat to the rope around her waist (most notably a worm on a string, one of those purse-attachable mini hand sanitizer bottles, and a metal Cro* keychain.. because it was shiny).

Her shirt is some shitty gas station top that she found in the garbage. It's yellow with black and red print. The local chain goes by the name of “Cro’s” and bears the two jolly slogans of “Cro Yeah!” & “Cro’s - feathers, fuel, and fried stuff." Their mascot is, of course, a crow. Both the mascot and the slogans have been printed onto the front and back of the shirt Laura wears - which has been torn and slightly cropped from getting caught on something and ripped in the process of freeing it. For warmth she carries a black wool sweater. Currently she wears it with the sleeves tied around her neck and the rest hanging against her back.
