Hellooo!!
I've decided to participate in this lovely challenge #aprilchallenge {very late} and I picked a somewhat unique character, or rather characters. (referring to the writing part<3)
I feel like most people would pick the REAAALLY popular characters like Jeff, EJ, Toby ect... Not that there's any wrong with that :D I did have ideas for them too, but this song's been on my mind and so has this character n their interaction so I won't keep ya waiting..
Every Breath You Take by The Police × Jay Merrick.
Tim W. × Jay M. shippers are gonna love this one :sob:  Although I don't particularly fancy this ship, it's been growing on me ever since this challenge has begun..
{this song fits both of them, it would've suited Tim more with that one verse it has abt longing for the other, but I feel he wouldn't LOVE love this song, purely because of the sheer amount of guilt he feels for everything.}

I feel like this song fits Jay very well thru mid Mrbl H. , till the very end- and after his death.
The vibe honestly matches Jay's chill inner introvert, one who just follows around and observes, though he was a very good leader throughout the series. 🤔 :relieved:
It was a simple car-ride to gather tapes/visit locations and whatnot, when this song randomly began playing on the radio and the 2 of them were introduced to it.
They have each other's backs, even through whatever crazy Slender-mess, -sickness, -chase happens. Every weird encounter, Tim watched Jay's back and vica versa.
By the time Jay knew the song back-to-back he was forced to face something.. a lingering feeling of warmth. The way his heart ached every time Tim took those pills, the worry he felt for him whilst running and exploring.
Not so short, short story:
A familiar warmth overcame Jay as the the repetitive set of guitar chords began playing in his ear, the swoosh of early morning wind, somewhere midway cold and warm, guided him further down the dirtpath of Blackpine. The pleasant atmosphere melted a rare sense of ease into him, that was rather hard to comeby recently. The woods were calm, he was calm, everything was calm..
A stern voice called and pulled the brunette out of his thoughts— or rather daydreams.. He tilted his head from behind the videocamera, eyes re-focusing on the person ahead, his companion, Tim Wright. The dirt path had faded, seemlessly merging with the soft, bright green grass of juvenile spring.. They reached the far end of the park where the woods began to clear, revealing the building-like statue they were looking for.
T: "Jay? You good there?"
Jay's face darkened with a red hue, turning his head from the other, who stood there annoyed, though concerned. He hasn't been listening at all, rather iring- no..staring, whilst the music continued on. Gosh.. He's surely lost it now.
"Every breath you take,
And every move you make,
Every bond you break, every step you take,
I'll be watchin' you. "
Approaching the tower sent a shiver down Jay's spine, an eerie discomfort washing over him as he let Tim take lead. The structure of the Red-tower, once a water-tower, looked the exact same as it did the day Jay first stumbled upon it. He glanced at the other once inside, humming a weary 'Be careful' as Tim took a hike to the narrow planks Jay had once slipped from.
The sharp creaks of the wood only heightened the latter's anxiety. The structure itself was old, those dry planks used as a makeshift ladder weren't the sturdiest things and Tim wasn't the leanest he's ever been either.
J: "Timm— perhaps you should come down now."
Wright brushed him off with a hum, looking around for more tapes ,if there were any that is. (Spoiler, there weren't.)
The song, which had looped around since then, wasn't really easing the cameraman's rapid heartbeat, the thought of his companion falling sending him into an internal panic.. He had the video-camera after all, which was rather expensive in this godawful economy— but he sure as hell wouldn't be able to Tim if he had fallen by a wrongly placed step.
To think such meaningless things now tugged on his heartstrings..
"Oh, can't you see
You belong to me?
How my poor heart aches,
With every step you take."
The excess time he had been given to think, to process things was slowly getting to him, in the worst ways possible. [I]A mind of silent fury, eyes burning with shameless, momentary resentment against 𝘩𝘪𝘮. How he hated him for hiding the tape, for possibly CAUSING Jessica's death alongside her dissapearence, for tying him down and leaving him alone in that damned house. He despised 𝘛𝘪𝘮 𝘸𝘳𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘵 more than he's ever— .
Jay was up in an instant, hastily running down the flights of stairs he had climbed over half an hour ago. He had spotted Tim from the window- running from the main building. He had to know what was there— he had to see it himself, he's had enough of being lied to.
---
Sobs echoed through the small, temporarily apartment Tim and Jay had once shared.. A calm, blue atmosphere welcomed the smaller into the death of night, coincidentally appearing right next to the shaking form..
"I'm so sorry.. please.."
It was one thing seeing Tim Wright crying but it was a whole other thing hearing the lost words of affirmation and muffled apologies addressed to yourself, which left him shaky and breathless.
{ "Since you've gone I've been lost without a trace
I dream at night, I can only see your face
I look around but it's you I can't replace
I feel so cold and I long for your embrace
I keep cryin', "Baby, baby, please"" }
Being finally away from everything allowed most of the negative emotions from before to have been drained from both of them, as they managed to sync into a set schedule.
Waking up was one of the hardest things to this day but by dawn both were up and ready.
After a small yet filling breakfast, it was riding down the ever so familiar yet dusty roads of Alabama— "The police" playing non-stop on the radio, from early morning to late afternoon.
Later, Tim caught up with a few sidehussles on his laptop whilst eating junk food for dinner, Jay watching over his shoulder intently.
As night fell they settled into the back of the car, either watching the nicer tapes back, which were bound to force emotions and tears from Tim, or just resting in silence until sleep washed over them.
Jay had slowly grown to accept the tints of life and death, which washed the colors from his skin but left them stained with dark patches. His wounds had long stopped hurting, though not bleeding, therefore the fading sight of himself was still something he hadn't yet accepted..
ittedly, it wasn't terrible. He still had a lot to figure out about well.. existing like this, unable to communicate but observe for eternity... Though let's face it, going through walls was cool.
"I'll be watching you.."
"Every breath you take, every move you make
Every bond you break (I'll be watchin' you)
Every single day, every word you say
Every game you play (I'll be watchin' you)
Every move you make, every vow you break
Every smile you fake (I'll be watchin' you)
Every single day, every word you say. "
