Talk About Civilisation [pt.2]

Jack continued following the river with his bird, that he named ‘Charlie’. At some point, he saw a village in the distance.

”Finally! I think I’ve found a village!” Jack said, relieved. He ran to the village, while Charlie (the bird) flew along. When he arrived at the village, there was no one to be seen.

”Um, hello? Is anybody there?” Jack asked. But no response...

Suddenly, a door opens. Charlie flew towards it to check out what was behind that door. But nothing relevant.

Jack entered the building and looked around. He was fascinated. He walked in the kitchen. He saw a bowl of soup. He slowly neared it and when he was close enough, he neared the bowl of soup with his hand, in an attempt to feel the temperature. He then gasped, discovering that the bowl of soup was still warm. Out of fear, he stood silently, with his mouth still open. But then he heard a loud noise. The noise was scary and loud. He immediately turned around to see where it came from. His mind was frozen. He was internally panicking and he didn’t know what to do.

An inhabitant crazily came in.

”Well that was surely a tiring day! I think I’ll just lie down in bed for the next 6 hours and dreamlessly sleep.” The inhabitant said, rather quickly and weirdly. He just lied down in bed, and slept. Ignoring Jack’s presence.

Jack was truly creeped out. But he tried to stay calm.

”Phew” Jack said, relievedly.

Jack and Charlie went outside, still recovering from what just happened. And the first thing they see, is hundreds of inhabitants all over the place.

He overheard a female inhabitant speaking.

”Hehe, I’m so glad we have returned after..”

Jack stepped forward which interrupted the inhabitant’s speech.

All inhabitants silently stared at Jack.

Jack was extremely nervous and scared. The inhabitants looked at him with disgust, and some showed no facial expression.

One of the inhabitants, an elderly one, then said to Jack: “You look very strange, young boy. Where are you from and what are you doing here?” The inhabitant asked.

“I was lost in the forest and I sought for an inhabited village.” Jack replied.

All inhabitants looked worried at each other and there was a lot of buzz. The inhabitant spoke again “You are far, far from home, young man.” The inhabitant said with a worried voice.

”If you decide to continue your quest, then please be careful and watch out for strange creatures. Fear the forest, child, that’s the only way it might have mercy on you.” The inhabitant said.

The inhabitant handed Jack an axe to defend himself. “Here, have this axe in order to defend yourself. But use it wisely. It’ll be crucial”.

Jack thanked the inhabitant and also asked for directions to his town. Sadly, the inhabitant didn’t know the directions. The inhabitants wished Jack good luck and Jack and Charlie continued their quest in hope to find William.

Meanwhile, William, has found a house somewhere deep in the forest. William was very tried, so he entered the house. “Hello? Is anybody home? May I come in?” There was no response. “This place must be uninhabited. I’ll change that!” William decided to live in that house with his dog until he found a way back home.

He was seeking for food, but nothing but a few crumbs was left in the house. So he decided to find food outside.

”Hmm, I’ll go find some food outside. You’ll go with me, Jeff!” William and his dog exited the house to seek for food. They found some fruits and took it back to the house, where they ate it.

”Oh boy, I am so tired. I should take a rest.” William said, “Jeff, promise me that you’ll watch over me and you’ll protect me.” The dog barked. “I’ll assume that’s a yes.” William said. He then tried to sleep. And when he fell asleep, the dog went outside to find food. And while he exited the house, a shadow figure again appeared behind a tree. Waiting patiently.
