Shatter - Chapter 1

Stella lay next to a river, basking in the sun on a rock. It had finally stopped raining after so many days, and now the sun shone cheerfully in an empty blue sky. Maybe she should practice some magic, as it was really hard to practice while it was raining... She stood up and stretched. What should she do? She looked around, trying to get ideas, when it hit her. She looked at the river and sighed with relief at the fact that it was calm right now. She hopped off the rock, focused carefully on the water, and grinned as a green dot began to spread out. It kept growing until it finally stopped, and the final result was a Lilly pad. “Yes!” Stella jumped with excitement as it floated down the river. The last time she had made a Lilly pad it had sunk somehow. She sat down and watched the Lilly pad until she couldn’t see it anymore. I hope a frog enjoys that Lilly pad. Wait do frogs even live next to rivers? Oh well, they live next to some type of water. Maybe a fish can use it for shade. Then she could swipe it out and eat it! Her train of thought was broken off as she heard something in the distance. Was that a scream or a bird? She shrugged. Most likely a bird, as they were just as happy as she was that the rain was over. Was it getting closer? Maybe she could catch it! It was a pretty ugly sounding bird... Realization struck her like lightning. It was someone screaming, how could she be so stupid! She sighed at herself. They were really close now.. She waited in anticipation. Maybe they knew she was over here and was coming for her help. Hmm what power could that possibly be though? Could they see through walls possibly? Maybe they could sense when other cats are near. Oh! They probably can see the future! “Make them stop chasing me!!” Someone cried. She looked over to see them running towards her. Before she had any chance to react they crashed into her. She felt the fur on top of her head brush against the rock. They almost knocked her head!

“Can’t you watch where you’re going!?” She growled. His fur was fluffed up and he was shaking. “Is something wrong with you?” She snapped, annoyed that they hadn’t moved or responded. He flinched at this, which made her tilt her head. Was there something actually wrong with him? Finally he moved, and quickly began apologizing, “I-I’m sorry, but they were c-chasing me..” She stood up, becoming slightly intrigued.

“Who was chasing you?” She asked. Still shaking, he turned over to look at her and she jumped back. WHY WERE HIS EYES BLACK!?! He quickly looked away, and quietly responded. “It’s the s-same people who always chase me.. they all have the same aura for some strange reason..” Her head was spinning with so many questions. Why were his eyes black? What does he mean by aura? Why are these people always chasing him? “Nobody’s ever stayed around this long before.. D-does that mean we can be friends?” He looked up hopefully. And without thinking she replied, “Sure.”

First chapter done! I made it rather quickly, so sorry if I missed anything and made a mistake! The artwork for this chapter was done by the lovely ~•Umbrella•~. And in case you’re confused the prologue happened in the past and this is now the present time for the story. Oh and I changed the title because Split Souls wasn’t working for me x-x
