"Minty?"

The ginger kittens voice was merely a soft whisper, but Minty heard it clearly.

She lifted her head from the mossy bed and looked at the direction of the voice.

The kit was standing at the entrance of the den, looking at the starry sky above. Minty could see its sillouete clearly despite the darkness.

She got on her feet, careful not to make much sound. Her kits where fast asleep in their beds at the other side of the den, though one of them was empty.

"Arthur dear", she said, walking towards the kit, "what are you doing outside? Its freezing cold."

She attempted to curl her tail around him, but Arthur moved away unaware of her gesture. He looked at her, his blue eyes shining.

"When are momma and daddy coming back?"

For the briefest moment, Mintys expression went blank. She quickly regained her smile and sympatheticaly answered.

"Im certain that they will finish their mission soon."

  The kit let out a small whimper. "You realy think so?"

  "Yes Arthur", she answered, tucking her tail around him. Her eyes where wet. "They'll come back as heroes"

The two cats re-entered the warm den and started heading towards the empty kit bed. Midway, Arthur paused. The molly was quick to notice.

"Is everything alright Arthur?"

"Yeah" He took a moment to continue. "Is it ok, if I sleep at your bed tonigh?"

Minty looked surprised. "Dont you like your bed dear? Robin helped me find the best moss for you."

"No, I like it!" Arthur protested. "And I like the other kits too. I just..."

He couldnt find the right words to end the sentence. Minty looked sympathetic as she understood.

"Come along". The two cats reached the mossy bed and Minty lay down first, with Arthur getting between her front paws. He curled into a ball and rested his head on her paw.

  Arthur let out a big yawn. "Night night Minty" he said as he closed his blue eyes. Minty lovingly gazed at the ginger kitten and then fixed her gaze at the dens entrance. The stars werent shining bright enough fot her to see the first snow, but she knew that cold season was upon them.

They weren't coming back.

"Night night, my bright knight" she said, as she lay her head to sleep.

I have this headcanon that Arthurs parents left the domain when he was young. Did they go on a mission? Why did they never come back? Ill leave that up to you. Lets just say that things arent always what they seem.

Me and Cecil shared some headcanons regarding Robin and her family. She has 2 brothers from the sme litter and 2 younger siblings who where born half a year after this story takes place. Minty and her mate took care of Arthur and where proud caretakers and parents.
