As I was sitting up in my room with sticky notes upon sticky notes of story plots scattered around, I asked myself “why do I write?”
Surprisingly, the answer came fairly quickly.
Like most, I write because that’s what I love to do. The very thought that I can create an entire world with people, creatures, kingdoms, planets and sooo much more all in my head is fascinating.
One day I hope to publish my novels (assuming like most would). I want to make someone smile after they’ve had a hard day by reading my novel. I want to help people as much as I can through my writing. That’s my goal, at least.
So writers: why do you write?
Edit: Ahhhh thank you so much for the feature!!!

I never found my love for writing until about three years ago actually. I was playing this game called Neko Atsume, and I was so into the game that I had found an Amino for it. That’s where I eventually had the idea to start writing some short stories on the cats in the games.
It was the first time I had ever written a short story and I was actually very happy with what I wrote. I showed it to my aunt who was proud of me and gave a bit of pointers to improve my writing skills. She teaches English so she really helped and and now I just have a ion for writing. I even took a Creative Writing class, obviously it was super fun. I plan on taking it again.
To answer the question, I write to spread my imagination and creativity because that’s the only way I can do that. I also write because it’s fun to see my characters come to life in what I write.

Yeah, I also gave it up after a while, but with all the personalities the cats had and the things they did in the yard of the game, that was all it took for me to write something.
Sometimes I wonder if I would have found the motivation to write about something else if I had never found that game.

That’s true! I also loved how all of the cats were unique!
I think I’m gonna re- that game again

Yeah, it was really interesting!!
I may do the same thing
I know I'm 16 days ago late to answer such question, but my answer here is that I write because writing feels so close to home.
No, to paraphrase that, writing is home, for me.
I consider reality as an outside enviroment. And instead that it should be beautiful and ordered, for me, it isn't.
Writing for me is actually a shelter, a home to keep me safe from the outside chaos and noise.
Whenever I don't write, I always think about it.
Simply.Madi said it well, and I do feel the same.
It simply feels like breathing already. Writing poems and stories keep me going when I'm stuck.
It heals me whenever I feel aches in my life.
To summarize, writing brings life. At least that's what writing is for me.
It doesn’t matter how “late” you decide to comment, I love to hear other people’s opinions!
That’s a very deep, connecting way to look at it. It’s fascinating how you can create an entire world in your head from galaxies all the way to the cells in an organism. The possibilities are endless!
Writing is my comfort to. I haven’t had much free time as of late to write, and it feels like it’s eating away at me. I feel like writing has become a normal part of my day now too, so I get it

Yes, exactly🖤 :sparkles: Same here. But home is always welcome, so you can always retreat to the comfort of writing. Lovelots and enjoy writing xx

I write fiction and fantasy for two reasons.
1: I’ve wrote since early middle school and have enjoyed it since.
2: I was told by readers of some of my old writings being interesting and unique, so I figured that I could have found the hidden talent of mine.
I love fantasy stories! If you’d ever like a beta reader for your stories, I’d love to!
I’m glad you’ve found this talent! As a fellow writer, you know how hard it can be, but its sooooo worth it

I’ll gladly let you read over my writings! Firstly though, I’d have to finish at least a chapter so you can read the beginning of the story and even proofread it in case there is any grammatical errors

Sounds great!
I write because it makes me less lonely
Reading and Writing are good comforts, at least for me
At first it was to get all of my ideas out of my head. I was hyper active as a kid and have suffered from natural insomnia all of my life due to my mind never shutting the hell up. It was and still is a type of therapy for me. I didn't realize until last year that every single story I've written contains a part of me. I was immensely influenced by Edgar Allan Poe and like him I incorporated a part of myself into all of my stories. Whether the main character was based on me, my fears, my flaws and faults, my nightmares, insecurities, phobias, my ions, real life experiences from my childhood and adulthood good and bad, my hopes and dreams, my regrets and failures, basically everything and anything that makes me me and by writing made up stories or stories based on my real life I think it helps me make my peace with my past and helps me to look forward in a positive way to realize everything I've done and every decision I've ever made had brought me to here, right now, this very moment and by writing it helps me to really appreciate who I am and where I am today. I guess writing helps keep me blood rooted to never forget my past because if yesterday never happened then today wouldn't exist and tomorrow would never be.

I have my moments lol. As far as Mr Poe before you read or reread The Raven which is still one of the best poems ever written read Annabel Lee because it's so beautiful and tragic at the same time. For short stories check out The Masque of the Red Death, The Tell-Tale Heart or The Premature Burial. Those are a good start. Happy reading!
