What Makes A Blog Appealing? | Discussion

Hello, beautiful readers and writers. I come to you again with a discussion blog that dawned on me while I was talking to some wise people here.

I've been a part of this amazing place for almost two years now and it's become one of my favorite corners of the Internet. Without exaggeration, I come here every day for a couple of hours at least. I love reading everyone's blogs, participating in polls, leaving comments and featuring what I redeem as outstanding material. But, as most of you have already noticed, some blogs don't get as much love and attention as others do.

So, I'm asking you today:

:round_pushpin: What makes a blog appealing to you?

:round_pushpin: What do you search for when you scroll down the Front Page?

:round_pushpin: Why do you prefer a specific bstead of another one?

:round_pushpin: And what about the size of the blog?

As you understand, I've come to realize that some of the longer and more analytical blogs don't get as much attention as the shorter ones do. Does it have to do with today's attention span and the involvement of social media in various aspects of what we do? Or does it depend on what we deal with in our everyday lives and we need something "lighter" and "easier to digest" when we arrive here? It's a combination, right?

To be quite honest with you, I love, live and die for the longer, more detailed and philosophical blogs. I love seeing mental challenges here and posts that look more like essays and less than something we may have typed when being drunk. I know, I know. The world has seen more than a fair share of essays, we don't need more of those. But don't you just love it when a blog here becomes a mind opener for you and you feel like your horizons become vaster?

I don't know, maybe this blog has turned into an avalanche of rambling thoughts, so I'll end it here. Please keep in mind that I don't mean to offend anyone with this post, it's only a compilation of thoughts that I wanted to make known to you.

Please share your thoughts with me in the comments below and, as always, keep trying for the very best! And don't forget that it's your perspective, not your past, that can give you what you've always wanted and what you definitely deserve. (In other words, infinity.)

As always an excellent post Antonia. A few things makes a good post for me.

Good Presentation

meaning good spacing, use of bold/italic/underline (one is fine), optional: a well fitted background photo, maybe a GIF or two.

This is especially for long posts. It's just proper courtesy. I'm putting my time into reading this, respect me enough to show that you put real thought into this.

Short post too. Though because they're short, they can more get away get away with not  . That said, I more respect a writer who puts effort into their all.

Makes Me Think🤔

That's just it. Short or long, if a post can make me think.

Challenge what I thought I knew. Makes me ponder something I never did before.

Whether I agree or disagree with you, you got my thoughts flowing.

Unpopular

I love when people express their unpopular opinions.

Again, whether I agree with your beliefs or not. It's vital that you be who you are. Furthermore, that I see you for who you are. So I can never be deceived by who I thought you to be.

Unfortunately that's not always the case. It's so easy to hide behind your screen. Everyone is content taking the path of least resistance. No one wants to be shunned for going against the system.

Cue the cycle: drop a like, follow the crowd, rinse, repeat.

No shade, even I've done it sometimes.

Still to see someone break away from that. 'This is me, take it or leave it.'

Yeah that's a good post.

Hey, honey, so sorry for not replying earlier! Life has been crazy for me lately and I'm not a lot here. Your comment is a million times better than my blog actually! :joy: :joy: :joy:

And I agree with everything. You nailed it.

Well thank you🤗

As you can see no progress yet on making my comments shorter.

Eh what can you do ?

I'm fully embracing it.

Thank you for this post, without it I wouldn't have known that you can use bold/italic/underline in comments.

Amazing feature.

At the risk of sounding harsh, the only blogs that really interest me are ones that get me thinking about worldbuilding and/or how I can improve as a writer.

I love many things in blogs. What I don't enjoy are repetitive topic, post with no thought put in them like no gift , pictures, examples, backgrounds or titles. I know every one is entitled to show their review on a book but if your review says exactly the same as other already on the amino: wouldn't it be better as a comment? Also you can take that person's review, quote it and add to that or contradict. The more time I spend here the more I look for depth and innovation.

Very valid concerns indeed. Repetitive posts turn most people off and we've received some negative in regards to this exact topic. Compared to the content we saw here a year or two years ago, today's stuff is much more interesting and full of variety.

Wow it’s before school and I have to think in depth about something :joy: hmm I think that what makes a blog enjoyable is

•good grammar

•good spelling

•pictures (not gifs)

•interesting topic

•not long not short

When I scroll through feed what catches my eye is

•a cool title

•a cool picture

•interested first few sentences

I’ll read a variety of blogs but I don’t read much poetry because a lot of people just write a different style than I would like to read. I don’t read many stories because a lot of people don’t even try (jeez I sound so rude) and I don’t read reviews because I’m just not interested.

Something with thoughts that are a bit different... Different perspective. Ones where people aren't afraid to say what they think. If it's a book review, then one that isn't a standard well known YA or fantasy that doesn't just say it's really good but goes in to more detail. Or blogs saying what they don't like about books or aren't afraid to be critical. I suppose a gif can draw me in.
