What is nostalgia?

I know that it is an emotion,

But, what kind of feeling does it give?

Nostalgia is just like happiness,

And yet not everything about it

Can evoke the sensation of joy,

The touch of a smile, of angel's breath,

Ah, for it's a bit like loneliness,

Like Christmas Eve on silent winters,

The epiphany of coming death,

Inevitable, and approaching,

Yet nostalgia is like longing

For something that cannot be retrieved,

It is the yearning of hopes and dreams

Despite knowing it's not meant be,

And yet, Nostalgia's like going back

To the past in a single instant,

Painful, harrowing, but beautiful

Like the cascading rainbow fire,

It is experiencing sentiments,

The painful wounds of the yesterdays,

The silent, melancholic delight,

Or unexplainable apathy,

It is the feelings that one has held

Long ago in a far distant past,

Feelings, ed, or forgotten,

Lost through time like a distant echo,

What is nostalgia?

I know that it is an emotion,

But, what kind of feeling does it give?

It's like almost everything at once,

Yet an empty and dull nothingness,

It is both happiness and sorrow,

Yet elation and crestfallenness.
