Hello everyone! Hope you all had a wonderful day!
I am currently babysitting and the kids are watching a movie so I am taking advantage to write this review! I actually finished this book a couple of days ago but I've had strep so I've been sleeping and eating Popsicles. Been a truly lovely time. But now I am feel much much better and why not make this review! A little side note, I've been loving all the books I've been reading lately. It's been such a good time to be a reader. Anyways let's continue!
This book was so cute and exceeded my expectations! The whole book was a rollercoaster and I loved it. Like the reviews said, "this book will make you make you question who is evil and who is good." To end this quite long intro, I will never look at the classic fairytales the same.
Summary:
Every year in a small village called Gavaldon two children are taken. This cycle has existed for over 200 years, and in the beginning it seemed the children were taken at random. However soon the village began to notice that it one was beautiful and good, and the other was homely, to say the least, and bad. Two opposite youths taken from their homes to somewhere Gavaldon could only imagine. This year however, best friends Sophie and Agatha were taken and discovered where all these lost children have gone. The School for Good and Evil. Sophie, the towns beauty and goodie girl assumed her position at The School for Good. Meanwhile Agatha, the city's scariest 12 year old girl, who lived on a cemetery and loved dead birds would take her place at the School for Evil. However when the two girls were thrown into the Endless Woods, they found their fates switched. Sophie is casted to The School For Evil and Agatha, The School for Good. While ugly Agatha is being trained to be a pretty princess and Sophie, a now wart wearing witch in training, both girls know that the school made a mistake. Or what if this mistake is actually a sign of who they really are? Find out what really happens in our classic Fairytales in The School for Good and Evil.

This book was fabulous! I was in love from the beginning! I loved the characters, and seeing them transition through out the book. It made me want to scream, cry, laugh all at once. If you are an emotional reader like myself, this is your book! It pulls of the heartstrings, and per usual this book has a good message. Typically intermediate books do, and the message was so beautiful. Sophie was the sassiest 12 year old, and Agatha was freaking hilarious. Both girls really brought out not only good traits, but bad ones too. All of the minor characters were only pluses to the story, and they too transitioned within the book. Which that didn't overwhelm it with craziness which is surprising! Soman Chainani to say the least, can write one heck of a book.
*SPOILERS AHEAD!*
What I loved:
Sophie and Agatha are one of my all time favorite main characters. Soman Chainani made them work together so well it's actually insane. At first, I was frustrated with them being in "the wrong school" but then Sophie started changing into this really terrible jealous wreak and little Agatha became this beautiful princess and it warmed my heart that she was so happy. The message that went with Agatha was so perfect, you're already beautiful and you don't need a fairy god mother to change you. Then we have Tedros who I absolutely love! If he was real and I was four years younger then he could be a candidate to be my potential newest book boyfriend. He's such a gentlemen, and although he is kind of an ass I can really see him changing in these next books. It's sometimes hard for me to that they are so young, and learning so much still so sometimes their actions seem dumb for a teen but for a tween they make sense. I really want him and Agatha together. However, I totally can roll with Sophie and Agatha. Which can I rant about that for a second? I love that this book included a LGBT relationship. It literally warmed my heart to see that an intermediate book had this! Which to me this shouldn't be shocking or surprising this should be normal! And hopefully in years to come more authors will add these relationships. I think introducing all different types of relationships at a younger age is good! Because it shows that there isn't just one type, but dozen of kinds! I mean Agatha at the beginning was introduced queer and then she began to question her sexuality. Sophie, not until the end did the same. That's my little rant lol, but carrying on! The ending was probably my favorite part, everything was happening and flying at me. Plot twists were being thrown, Sophie was literally insane and Agatha was a badass princess. Tedros was kind of insane and a bit misogynistic... That was a bummer. To conclude, I loved this book. It tested the status quo about how a princess should be, because they shouldn't have to be this damsel in distress but they can be badass independent warriors who kick ass in a dress! Girl power. Also it made you question what is good and what is evil? At the end everyone realized that their really isn't a good and an evil and both can have dances, both can be pretty, both can be ugly and everything wasn't as it seemed. It was one hell of an ending.
What I disliked:
Well Sophie, although an awesome character I don't really like her that much. I mean she still after ALL OF THAT thinks she's good. I hate the break the news to her HAHA. Although the plot twists were freaking awesome I thought that the whole school master thing was a bit odd. Kind of disappointed and a little creeped out that a man everyone thought was like 1,000,000 years old ended up being a cute teen boy. But isn't that what vampires are? Man my thoughts are all over the place today. Those two things are the only things I questioned through out the book. The rest of it was amazing!
That is my review on The School for Good and Evil! I recommend this book to anyone and everyone! Such an amazing read worth everyones time!
Happy Reading!
