In regards to reading this was a great year for me. I was able to read so much without getting into a reading slump which takes me back to the time of early highschool and late middle school. I used to read a lot and this was the first year since starting college that I was able to read this much while still doing well in school. I find myself too focused on reading for my personal enjoyment to focus on my academic reading which was why in previous years I didn’t read much.

I don’t think that my tastes have changed that much. In the beginning of the year, I started off reading mystery and fantasy and that’s how I ended the year as well. In a sense I grew to like memoirs more than previous years so that is definitely a change for me. There was a time during the year where I was listening to a lot of non-fiction audiobooks that consisted of science, history, and self help books.

I can say that the main books I read were part of what I typically read but I would say that I became more open minded when attempting to read books that are part of the genres I stopped enjoying. I think out of all the books I read I changed from liking romance as a main plot. Towards the middle of the year I read a lot of books where the main genre was romance and I didn’t enjoy those as much as the books where romance was only a subgenre.

The biggest change for me was I stopped enjoying spicy novels. No matter what genre it was, I just didn’t enjoy those types of scenes. I found myself struggling to get through books that had a lot of that within the novel, most of those books didn’t become my favorite.

There was also a time where I spent a lot of time reading thrillers and mysteries which was a genre I have read in the past but this year was a year I read a lot without giving up. Compared to previous years the biggest change in my reading habits was that I read a lot more digitally rather than with physical copies. I also started using audiobooks which was something I only started this year. I wouldn’t have read as much as I did if I didn’t utilize the ability to listen to books while working on my school work or doing my chores around my dorm/apartment.

I also ended the year with a fantasy novel so I went back to the basics...

This was the first year I participated in the goodreads reading challenge for the entirety of the year. Last year I started using Goodreads towards December so I didn’t get a log of all the books I read in 2022, but luckily I was able to start my reading challenge for 2023 in January. I made my goal to be 100 books just because I didn’t truly know how many books I would be capable of reading. At one point I started reading less books and I didn’t think I would complete my goal, but with the read-a-thons I have participated in allowed me to get to a point where I was excelling at my goal.

The most memorable moments this year were the fact I got a reading journal which I have used only a little bit this year. This will give me the opportunity to make more reviews since the entire journal is basically a bunch of review pages. I learned this year that most of the books I read I tend to like. I haven’t hated any of the books I read this year. Some have been super challenging to get through or too challenging where I have yet to be able to finish but I have still enjoyed reading those books.

I am honestly very proud of how much I have read this year. I even ed a bunch of book clubs: two in the BWA community and the other one at my college campus. I have found many books that are diverse through the groups.
