[[MORE]] The lights reflecting off the black...

The lights reflecting off the black waters of the sea were breath taking. Her sea colored eyes took in the constellations and held them within their depths. The woman’s ears twitched lightly as the sound of the water lapping against the skiff soon became all she could hear once Kugane was at a great enough distance. A calmness settled over her like a heavy blanket, it was hard to think about her troubles when everything else was so serene. Spying the constellation of Cassiopeia her painted lips pulled back in a smile. “My father had a song he’d sing when he had to sail the trade ships from Doma.” She spoke unprompted her voice was soft, hush for a moment. She breathed in sucking the cold air into her lungs and holding it before uttering the first lines. “For she was his secret treasure… She was his shame and bliss… And a chain and a keep are nothing… Compared to a woman’s kiss.” Her smile was bittersweet as her soprano voice rang out above the lapping waves and creaking wood. “For hands of gold are always cold but a woman’s hands are warm.” Ray sat in quiet contemplation as she sang, furrowing his brow and nodding along to her beautiful voice. Making minor corrections to course, he more or less stows the theatrics with which he normally navigates and sails, letting his hand rest lazily in the water as the skiff goes on its relatively calm voyage. He distractedly taps a jellyfish, which stings him as they’re wont to do, but being a sailor for this long in these waters he’s more or less used to it. Still, it suddenly gives him an idea. Without interrupting her lovely melody, Ray reaches into a saddlebag of his and pulls out some shrimp dust he kept on hand to feed koi at some of his friends’ ponds and casts a handful into the water. As the local fauna pick up on it, they do what many of them do to try to attract food: they begin glowing with bioluminescence, the water brightening as though the stars had fallen into the water itself, a fireworks display going off soundlessly, accentuating her song. Feeling he’d at least done something, Ray smiled up at her while keeping a wary glance occasionally toward the path they have to go to reach their destination. As the water began to light up with moving constellations and galaxies, her face brightened. She leaned carefully over the edge of the ship to watch the sea life swim around the ship, her expression changing to one of childish joy. The jellyfish particularly had her eye as they drifted with the currents among the various sized fish that came up to the shrimp dusts call. “He rode through the streets of the city~ Down from his hill on high. O'er the winds and the steps and the cobble. He rode to a woman’s sigh~” Her voice continued the short melody as they sailed. She resisted the urge to place her hand in the water and remained content to watch. The gentle chorus would continue a few more times with repetitions. “For hands of gold are always cold but a woman’s hands are warm…” Then she fell to a hush silence. The seeker would glance back in the raen’s direction her tail swaying with contentment. “I.. had no idea the sea could be so beautiful.” Ray tilts his head and shrugs almost triumphantly. “It’s a living being, y'know? Mama Sea. She’s beautiful and unforgiving, respect her and she’ll share everything she’s got witcha. Spite her and she’ll remind you who you are to her. She’s strong, she’s fierce, but she loves us all as her children.” He tips a wink in her direction, gesturing at her midsection having caught her gestures and ways of avoiding the subject. “Like all mamas. Sing like that for your kid, yeah?” Orianna nodded as he explained. So many sailors had said the same thing about respecting the sea. Having spent the majority of her life in the desert it was so foreign. The depths and storms made her nervous, anxious, but in this moment she was at ease on the calm waters. At his wink at her midsection she grew flustered. Cradling her stomach instinctively. “I will… How could I not?” She smiled softly. “I mean. You just did, I just meant y'know…” He laughed a bit, shaking off a minor fluster of his own, glancing back at the sea and doing a few minor course corrections. “Make sure it knows its mama is as caring as you are. Everything’ll be alright, lil…sakura…sis…”
