Mentor Appreciation

I was really itching to a blog today. We’ve had author appreciation and letters of appreciation, which served as inspiration for this post. Many writers are self-taught or have an editor/beta reader, etc. but we all started somewhere. Someone out there pushed you to succeed. Someone out there encouraged you to keep pushing through the writer’s block. Someone out there may have mentored you and given you advice during times of need. Someone may have indirectly inspired you to write. This is what my appreciation blog is all about: those who have mentored or have stuck with me through my writing career.

This isn’t for just writers. Even as a reader, a memorable relative or teacher may have taught you to read, or sat on your bed as they read you to sleep. Someone may have given you recommendation among recommendation, and have played a part in finding your favorite book.

If you want to hop on the bandwagon, I ask you to use the #mentorappreciation because I personally want to see your amazing blogs.

This isn’t an official mentor, but I have to give a huge shoutout to the person who got me into writing. She isn’t on here and we aren’t close anymore, but this person got me into writing by begging me to an app with her. Even though I didn’t know how to use proper grammar and I was in no way an artistic person, I have to thank them for pushing me because I grew to love the app until I had to leave. That started my love for writing and I can’t thank her enough. I also think she played a part in my love for reading as well. We always went to the library together and read books at the same time so we could talk about them (shout out to another person who always drove us). My other family weren’t into reading and writing like I was, so I really appreciate them.

Here is my unofficial mentor who has stuck by me since those days. I’ll mention her name, but she is not active on this amino anymore. Thank you so much to Ozthewriter for everything you’ve done for me. You have been by my side since even before our official app shut down. You have encouraged me, given me advice, and ed my work. We’ve spent nights talking about story ideas and our lives outside the writing world. Who says mentors have to be older than you? I’ve learned more from you about writing and reading than anyone else. I hope to remain internet buddies for as long as possible, even if I’m not always there on our group chat (lol). Thank you thank you thank you. I have and will always appreciate everything you’ve done for me.

I also have many mentors here which includes my whole curation team. Not specifically in reading and writing, but they’ve also taught me to express myself and take on a leadership role even (if they don’t know it). As an introvert, I never thought of being a leader of any sort. And while I’m still learning, they’ve become amazing mentors as I try to grow. So thank you to my curation team and my good friends here!

This is so heartwarming and hopeful, and I'm sure most of us can learn something based off of it. Mentors and teachers are big part of our lives at any given moment. No matter how old we are, the lessons are there and we must be ready to open our eyes and hearts and receive them.

Thank you for everything you've done for this place and for the great person you are! :kissing_heart:
