«Are you God?»

«Do you see me as God?›

«I see you as manipulative.»

«Manipulation is often the sin of petty thieves. In popular tales, it's portrayed by the common fox.»

«You aren't a fox.»

«How do you choose to depict me?»

«I cannot imagine you as anything besides yourself.»

«Am I to consider that flattery?»

«It's factual.»

«You're incapable of accurately comparing me to anything you understand. In your mind, that places me above those I differ from.»

«Not above, not necessarily.»

«Regardless, as a deity.»

«Is it so strange to attribute divine powers to who controls your mind?»

«Your mind has always been your own property. All I see are glimpses.»

«And you spin these glimpses into theories, ghosts of who I might be, seeking to drive me into self-enlightenment.»

«That is my job, yes.»

«Your job is entirely different. This is something else: your work ethic, your ulterior motive. You thrive on building people up.»

«There is beauty, yes, in seeing what twisted things will rise from the ashes.»

«Is that how you choose to depict me?»

«No, it is not. You are something quite unique. The phoenix that lit itself on fire.»

«The fox and the phoenix?»

«I imagine they'd be the greatest of friends.»

«You cannot possibly call this friendship.»

«My affection remains, even if unrequited.»

«Toxicity kills reciprocity.»

«If love is an illness, toxicity serves only to make it more intense.»

«You speak with such confidence I'm inclined to believe you. It's exactly why this conversation started: you distort my view of things based on whims and guesses; you toy with perception once you render reality irrelevant.»

«Everyone toys with perception, albeit unknowingly. The world isn't built on objectivity.»

«But you aren't the rest of the world. You are no petty thief.»

«No, I am not.»

«And you are not God either. Tell me, what are you?»

«I am the one who provides the match.»

God.-«Are you God?»

«Do you see me as God?›

«I see you as manipulative.»

«Manipulation is often the sin of petty thieves.

What if we made all of your poems into songs... that would be kind of cool

:black_small_square: It was a great piece.

I enjoyed reading it.

I just have a suggestion...

Take it or leave it. It’s up to you! It got confusing (for me) having to go back and forth on who was being identified as God and who the person was having a conversation with them/it.

The symbols you’re using would be cool to see utilized as the reference to said deity while leaving the one who isn’t without the symbols completely.

I really do feel it would give it a more graceful flow for readers — unless your intent is to have it that way to confuse them, then by all means keep it as is.

I personally find the subtle details of how the presentation is can make a huge difference on the whole piece all together. I look forward to reading your work in the future.

Firstly → thanks for takin the time to write such a thoughtful comment~~ :two_hearts:

Secondly → yeah, I totally see what you mean! I was afraid the difference in punctuation might hurt the immersion, but if it becomes too troublesome to read, I might make it clearer the next time I write something like this🤔
