A/N-For my second last blog of the day, I am wondering about the origin of my sun sign which is Gemini, so let’s get started.

Here is the thing in another amino community I am part of, we are supposed to make a project on constellation and while I was working on that one, I got interested in the origin story of the constellations.

And being a Gemini, my mind wandered to the origin story for the constellation and I came to know that the twins who are always talked about are named Castor and Pollux, of which Castor was mortal and Pollux was immortal.

Did you know that Gemini is the Latin name for twin?

I didn’t.

Did you know that there is going to be a Gemini meteor shower this December?

Well, it was news to me.

Moving on to story of Castor and Pollux, it is said that in a battle, Castor lost his life and Pollux was grief stricken due to which Zeus granted the brothers immortality by placing them in the night say.

But I kept on wondering about some question and their possible answers.

If Castor and Pollux have different fathers how come they are identical?

I am really confused with the concept of being identical twin but the most logical answer that I can think is Zeus involvement, he might have changed the appearance of the brothers into something identical, because of his obsession with beauty or blessed the brothers since they were attached by the hip from the time they were out of the womb.

Why is castor Mortal while Pollux immortal?

This question has simple answer which I found online as well, I.e. Castor is the son of a mortal king while Pollux is Zeus’s son and a demi God, hence an immortal.

How did Castor die?

There is a legend that both brothers were in a war to save their sister Helena but the fierce battle was harsh for mortal Castor while made demigod Pollux distraught with pain and he felt like he could not live his immortal life without his brother.

How did the brother’s become immortal?

Well, this happened with Zeus intervention again, Pollux pleaded his father to make him mortal as well so that he could accompany his brother in death, to which Zeus made Castor immortal as well and placed them in the sky, so that they can be together forever.

What does Gemini symbol signify?

It is said that the brightest start of the constellation, are placed as the eyes of the two brothers, the other stars forming the stick figure holding hands, to signify that they are together in all the mischiefs till eternity.

What is my take from the tale?

Your life is too plain if you don’t have a sibling and if you have one, annoy them till eternity.
