Out of her crypt Lady Eliss emerges,
Breaking the surface of a life of new purpose.
The flesh rots from her legs as she climbs the stone stairs,
Her once vibrant locks now a crop of lifeless hair.
Greeted by a wheezing corpse as she exits the crypt,
“It’s no wonder you died, you’re so poorly equipped!
Never fear my dear, only your soul has been ripped,
Hurry along now, The Banshee Queen has many to conscript.”
As she follows the crowd, memories invade her mind,
She re family, friends, she re mankind.
Determined to live, she won’t be left behind,
She must reclaim that life amongst her own kind.
She flees from this garrison of shadow and death,
On and on she runs, never taking a breath.
She never wore the colours the others proudly displayed,
But she still bears the insignia of The Scarlet Crusade.
She’s lost the light when she spots the red and white,
Luckily campfires illuminate the banners all through the night.
Soldiers turn as they hear her approach,
A look on their face like they’ve seen a cockroach.
“The scourge are attacking!” The battle cry is sounded,
Eliss scans the trees around her, dumbfounded.
It’s too late to vanish, she finds herself surrounded,
As the circle closes in, a second call is resounded.
Corpses fall from the trees with blades in each hand,
Corpses rise from the dirt leaving holes in the land.
Eliss flees from the battle, she’s sprinting through the trees,
Fatigue finally catches her, she falls to her knees.
“You know you can still breathe.” She hears a familiar wheeze.
“There won’t be any taste, but you can eat if you please.”
“Once my name was Feron, my faith was unshaken,
All of that changes when one’s soul is taken.
This war is a farce, their crusade is mistaken.
We were all like them once. We’re no scourge, we’re forsaken.”
This poem was inspired by and is set within the Warcraft Universe
