Trigger Warning!!
GORE!! MURDER!! GORE!!! VERY DARK!
╔══════✮❁•°♛°•❁✮ ══════╗
Why hello there lovers of dark fables. I have always laughed at the Little Red Riding Hood fabels, I mean who is that stupid? However I thought it would be fun to this challenge and remake how it goes.
Keep in mind, leaders can in no way compete with the wonderfully talented writers in this club. I am not competing at all. But as I love fables and it helps encourage me to write I figured it can't hurt to in the fun. Again, my story is not an actual entry, it's just for fun.
This story does take a very dark turn and is kinda gory, but not descriptive.

It was her thirteenth birthday and the last thing she wanted to do was waste it traipsing through the woods to visit an old woman, even if it was her grandmother. But mother had said she had taken ill so Red had to take some food to the withered old bore.
Red had this day planned out for weeks, she was supposed to go to the pond and spend the morning swimming with her crush, Malcolm, then they would have a picnic under the old birch tree and hopefully he would give her her first kiss.
But now she was stomping through the dead leaves and branches of trees long past their expiration dates to visit someone her mother could have just as easily seen. She always had to ruin Red's plans and it annoyed the girl to no end.
The only condolences Red had was what she carried in her small picnic basket that hung from her left arm. She smiled as she thought about all the wonderful treats inside.
Pulling her red hood over her blonde hair to keep the wind from making it nothing but a horrid bird's nest of tangles she grumbles under her breath, that is until she hears a snap of a branch to her right.
Living just outside the woods she is very familiar with every tree and trail around, all the sounds and smells. From the sound of the twig breaking she could tell something rather large had stepped on it.
Halting her progress, Red looks in the direction of the sound waiting to see what was following her. Maybe it was a buck, she would love to see his majestic horns as he snorted a warning and flexed his great muscles. Maybe she would be so lucky as to see the doe that he protects. Maybe, just maybe she also had a fawn with her, its adorable little spots covering its frail body.
After a few minutes of quiet examination Red watches as a huge brown wolf emerges slowly, cautiously from the surrounding trees, its eyes locked on hers. It stops a few feet from her and looks her over with a low unthreatening growl.
"What's a sweet little girl like yourself doing, walking alone in the dark forest?"
Taken aback by being called a little girl, Red frowns and takes the wolf in.
"Who Are you calling little? And what makes you think I'm sweet? Sexiest much?"
Annoyed with the wolf already, she rolls her eyes and walks past him without another word.
"Wait, litt...um...young lady. Where are you going with that sweet smelling basket of yours?"
The wolf's eyes are glued to the package of promised goods as he licks his lips, his stomach growling hungrily.
Red glances at the basket then up to the wolf with a sly grin.
"You don't want what's inside, trust me, dear wolf. It's not meant for you, but for grandmother. She lives alone in the cottage across the river and she has fallen ill, so I'm going to visit her and give her what's inside."
The wolf's muzzle turned up into an evil looking grin that was meant to look friendly, and Red smiled back before turning once again and skipping happily now down the dirt trail leading towards the bridge that runs over the wide river.

Red could see the little cottage now, the one story shabby little house with its peeling paint and unstable shutters that swing in the wind. Someone really needed to fix this place up….or burn it down.
Knocking on the wooden door, Red's eyes wander about the grounds, taking in the footprints left in the soft dirt path leading to where she stood now. She waited a moment then knocked again, this time greeted with a voice.
"Come in, dear child, I've been waiting for you." The Words are followed by a fit of coughing, then silence.
Red walks inside the dimly lit cottage. It's a small place with a couch facing the huge window, a couple small side tables on either side and a lounge chair facing the couch. A few pictures hung from the dirty white walls of her mother and siings when they were younger anda couple of herself.
Red follows the sound of heavy breathing into her grandmother's bedroom and looks her over as she lay under her quilt that's way too warm for this time of year.
"Come closer, dearie so I may see you better." Croons her grandmother, forcing Red to enter farther into the awful smelling room and near the bed. Red gasps a little as she takes in her grandmother's looks.
Oh, grandmother, you look dreadfully ill….and oh my, what big eyes you have!"
Before the old woman could spit out a reply, Red pulls a small dagger from her jacket pocket and straddles the wolf dressed as grandmother, pinning its arms to its side.
"They're probably better to see me with, but also the size means they will be much juicier."
Red grins as her eyes sparkle, her right hand bringing up the dagger and without wasting another second Red makes quick work of cutting out its eyes.
"Oh, grandmother, what big teeth you have!"
Red giggles as she uses the handle of the dagger to bust out each of its sharp teeth, watching as its mouth filled with blood, hearing it gag and cough as it slowly chokes.
"I bet they were better to eat me with? Oh but what a lovely necklace they will make."
As the poor wolf howls in anger and pain between fits of coughing, Red tilts her head as she watches.
"You're a lot funnier to play with than my puppy was, even more fun than Maxine's pony."
Red uses her fingers to grip the wolf's dangling tongue and pull in from its jaws to it's full extent before lopping it off. The screams get horrendously loud before the blood completely takes over its mouth and throat, cutting off its oxygen.
"Your tongue will be a rare delicacy tonight, shared only with my true love."
Finally done playing with the wolf who pretended to be an old feeble woman, Red plunges the blade into its neck with a girlish giggle.
"I guess you chose the wrong day to play dress up, stupid wolf."
Hearing a rustling sound in the closet now, Red opens the door to find her real grandmother gagged and bound laying on the floor. Red shakes her head as she narrows her eyes,
"Grandmother, I think you're too old to live alone, you were duped by an idiot wolf. Don't worry though, I'm here to help you."
Red closes the closet door as her grandmother tries to scream through her gag to get her granddaughter's attention again, but she is ignored.
Red lights a fire in the hearth, making it rage with beautiful flames of red and orange. Red states I to the blaze as if in a trance for a few minutes before snapping out of it. She uses the fire poker to drag out burning logs and pushing them against the couch and chair, watching as the furniture catches fire. Once red is satisfied that the flames will continue growing she smiles and leaves the cottage.
Standing away from the inferno but close enough to see each flame licking the walls and feeling the heat dancing from the building, Red listens to her grandmother's wails get louder by the second.
"Happy birthday, Red, make a wish."
With a gleeful giggle and a new spring in her step, Red skips away from the sounds of her grandmother burning alive.

An interesting, well written retelling. I assumed the biggest difference would be red who seems to have a more modern attitude but then the ending came out of no where. I really enjoyed reading it
Thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed it!
Oh my that was such a twist and loved the way it was written too

Very much so
Oh my, what an intriguing read! I love that new twist of the fairy tale. It was so exciting with all that foreshadowing at the beginning and before she stepped foot inside the grandmother’s house. Also your version of “what big eyes you have” was just so amazing and perfect. Honestly, it was a great read!
Awwww :flushed: thank you so much! It means so much to me that you liked it!
Ah yes Malcolm he sounds even more scandalous than Red.Why do we only get a name drop. We'd like to see how the picnic goes jerk! I refuse to read this in the normal orientation. I'm turning my phone upside down and reading it.
"Annoyed with the wolf already, she rolls her eyes and walks past him without another word. " 🤣
Haha oml you wanna hear about the picnic? Maybe I'll make a part two just for you to meet scandalous Malcolm who eats wolf tongue :joy:
