It's me again, hi!

You might've seen the two polls I posted

beneath this post, this one.

I was pretty surprised with the results!

Only a few people have read anything by Alice

Oseman, and almost no one has read her book

Loveless. Alice is my comfort author. When I

don't know what to read I pick one of her books

and they rarely disappoint. In this blog that I put

more work in than necessary, I'll be spitting some

of my thoughts on the three books shown above.

I'm actually in the middle of reading Radio Silence

right now, and I might do a separate review on

that. For now, have these:

Loveless is a pretty recent read. Did I read it pure-

ly because it promised an asexual main character

? Yes. Did I, an asexual teen, end up strongly rela-

ting to Georgia's experience as an aro-ace person

? No. I ended up relating more to Sunil, a non bi-

nary side characte.

"It was all sinking in. I’d never had a crush on anyone.

No boys, no girls, not a single person I had ever met.

What did that mean?"

A lot of people have expressed what this book

meant to them, how much they could relate to

feeling broken or different from others just beca-

use they don't develop crushes or don't feel sexu-

al attraction. For me personally, it's never been

that way.

Characters like Rooney (Georgia's roomate) or Pip

(her best friend) felt complete and realistic like in

most of Alice's work. I loved them. Rooney's a-

ppearance somewhat reminds me of my own

roomate's. I do have an issue with Sunil as a

character. In the book it's clearly stated that they

use he/they pronous, and not once is 'they' used.

By no one. Not even in the narration. I believe Ali-

ce has mentioned fixing that in future editions, so

fingers crossed.

The plot felt slower paced than what I'm used to

when it comes to the author, and I was really a-

nxious in the middle where it just kept dragging

and dragging with more problems adding up, I

didn't quite enjoy that. The ending wrapped it up

nicely though !

So Heartstopper was actually the first piece of

Alice's I've read, ever. It was on WEBTOON beca-

use thirteen year old me was and fourteen years old

me still is obsessed with online comics. I found

her drawing style simple and I not

particularly liking it, but now I do. Heartstopper is

about two teenage boys, Nick and Charlie. You've

probably heard about their story being adapted by

Netflix! Nick is a seemingly straight guy while

Charlie is openly gay, they meet at a British all-

boys school where they quickly become friends

and where Charlie develops a strong crush on

Nick. I love the way Alice portrays their emotions,

not only through the drawings but also the text.

This cominc can be bought as a graphic novel

and I definitely recommend it !!

I'm pretty sure this was the second thing I read by

Alice. It's alse her third YA novel! I Was Born For

This features a boy band, The Ark, and a teenage

girl named Fereshteh/Angel Rahimi who is a big

fan. It's been a while since I've read it, but I reme-

mber it being pretty chaotic for thirteen year old

me. My parents could still monitor the stuff I read

on my Kindle back then and I feeling extra

cautious because 'boy band' was definitely not

something they were used to seeing in book

descriptions. It's honestly a bit of a blur, I should

re-read it.

Alice hits us again with transgender representa-

tion, a Muslim main character and POC characte-

rs. She does wonders to the white dominated YA

genre. There's LGBTQ+ themes, just like in pretty

much any of her work.

"In an otherwise mediocre existence,

we choose to feel ion."

The plot is pretty messy, the drama realistic and

there's quite a bit of emotional scenes.

Something I from this book is that

there would always be a description of what Fere-

shteh was wearing, which was oddly comforting.

I did have a bit of a problem with imagining some

of the settings, white room syndrome? All in all,

a very solid read, but I don't recommend reading

this before any other Alice's books.

────────●─

And that was that! I really hope this doesn't flop,

and I hope you look into her books a bit more.

I believe she also has a YouTube channel, so do

check that out. Let me know if you liked this?

Omg yes! I love Alice Oseman's work! I have all her books including the Heartstopper books! I don't normally like young adult but her work is great!

It really is! It's definitely a bit on the lighter side sometimes, but all while still handling more serious themes, it's great.
