Do not let time

or memories

become the reason

to fall apart.

                     While we talk about family, it is

                     always the closest relations… so

                     why not with the farthest possible

                     known relation?

There is a tombstone that I feel

Stands above the rest,

Something draws me close to it,

An invisible hand at play,

The name and all, now blurred with age,

Now erased by time,

The secrets within this tomb

Lost forever, never be found,

This lonely tombstone, cold to touch,

Neglected by age,

A weary rock, still standing

Even if it was forgotten,

There might have been someone that cared

For this lonely rock,

A marker of memory

That was destined to fade in time,

I reached my hand out for the stone,

Let my fingers glide

Across the weathered surface

That might have been polished marble,

I knew not the one beneath it,

Of who they had been,

I knew nothing of their tale

That had been sealed away from me,

And they've no idea of me,

The one before them,

I'm but a stranger to them,

Simply visiting an old grave,

Nonetheless, I knew more than that,

The blood you once had

Is flowing within my veins,

Giving me life, as yours did once,

I've come to visit, Ancestor,

I came to see you,

Though distant be our bloodline,

We're family, one and the same,

So, heed me, get comfortable

With my visits now,

I won't let you drift away;

You'll stay alive in memory,

I may know nothing about you,

But I think it's fine,

As long as I speak your name,

You'll never die, never at all,

We're family, one and the same,

Though distant, our time,

At least, let me honour you,

Let me acknowledge your being.
