꒰ Daisy's research ꒱

Hello! For this collab, BPS has decided to go over the question, Have BlackPink been able to keep their reputation as a popular Idol group with their world tour and first full album, or have they shifted to becoming brand ambassadors for big brands such as Dior and YSL, ultimately leaving their idol life for modeling?. For this blog, we will be diving into explaining both sides of this question and our opinion on the matter.

Training As Models Since Debut

First, I would like to discuss their debut and the standards they had to live up to as being apart of YGE. BlackPink was planned to debut when 2NE1's contract was going to end, meaning that to the public eye they had to be just as good and popular as 2NE1. Even to YG, they had to live up to these standards. In the 2000 Editon YG Special Episode of Strongheart, CL mentioned that YG had called the (2NE1) ugly in front of their own staff. She said, "We are a girl group. He keeps saying that we're ugly." She also mentioned of the time that YG called them ugly in in their rehearsal practice. CL added, "YG came to a concert rehearsal once. When we do a rehearsal, we don't put on any makeup. He looked from afar into the screen and said 'Ah... They are really ugly.' In front of all the staff." YG has also itted to wanting "a girl group that are models and idols." This information is significant because this shows YG's morals for his next girl group on of beauty. YG wanted his next girl group (BlackPink) to not only be just as talented as 2NE1 but to also be prettier, meaning that modeling is one of the aspects they had to carry since debut.

How YGE has impacted their career

YG Entertainment has also played a major role in BlackPink's modeling career. The lack of combacks guarantees that Blinks will stream BlackPink's songs more. When given a long awaited comback after years, Blinks will be more hyped and willing to stream more rather than if they received a comeback twice a year. Though this tactic has shown to be affective, it has also majorly increased the girl's modeling careers because with less comebacks and time in the studio, they can take up more modeling deals. If they were given more comebacks, there modeling career wouldn't be as prominent because their time would be more revolved around performing.
