Doctor Who is a woman??

I wanted to talk about the announcement of the new doctor who. The 13th Doctor has been announced- Jodie Whittaker. This is big news because the Doctor has never been played by a woman before, and a lot of people seem to have an issue with it. In this day and age it's disappointing that someone is being judged by their gender before they've had a chance to do anything.

"Doctor Who is a man! That's like changing James Bond to a woman!"

Actually it's not. James Bond is a human being, written to be a man. The Doctor is an alien with no set sex/gender.

"This is Liberalism taken too far. Just trying to appease the SJW"

If that is genuinely one of your reasons for being angry about this, you've just proven why this needs to happen. You can't claim to be fine with equality and then pissed when it starts to actually happen.

"I'm am a loyal fan - but I will no longer be watching"

Then you're not a loyal fan. Doctor who has always been about breaking rules and exploring what could be. It's a show that's been around for so long due to its creativity and constant innovation.

"It's been established that the Doctor is a man since he's never been one"

You're right - and so was the Master until Missy came into the story. It's been canonically stated that Time Lords can change gender and that it isn't a big deal. The 12th Doctor says this himself to Bill.

If you have an issue that isn't related to her gender that's okay. We all have worried over how the next doctor will be and if they'll live up to the character.

I'm talking about this because I can't believe it's a problem. The issues that have risen show that we still have so far to go for equality. Please to always encourage people and judge them purely on merit - not things about them that they cant change like sexual orientation or gender.
