normally I don't like to keep my hopes up for rescues because I have had several that did not make it no matter how healthy they seemed, but I can't help it right now

I'm super excited about this rescue

I live by a local park and I often drive through it, my ducks love riding through slowly with the windows down

this time however, we came across a barnyard bird

I couldn't tell if it was a chicken or rooster, but I still pulled over to see what I could do

our local park is not a place for a barnyard bird

I spent about 45 minutes trying to get close to it, but it flew up into the nearby trees and perched too high for me to do anything. it made the cock-a-doodle-doo so I know now that it was a rooster

someone had left fresh rice for it, so I'm pretty sure it was recently abandoned

I gave up on him and kept driving through the park towards the exit, but then I saw something white on the road. I thought it was a plastic bag rolling along the cement at first

I quickly realized it was another chicken, and this one looked much more like a Silkie

I pulled over to catch it, and she was much easier to obtain than the male

I'm assuming they were both dropped off by the same person

I hate it when people do that

she was easy to carry, her legs went limp as I held her close, she did nothing to try to hurt me or get away, she flapped her wings a few times but her legs stayed still against me, and I kept her in my lap on the drive home with no problem.

she's now in the tub with the duckies, who seem to be okay with her for the most part. Poe has pushed up on her a couple of times, but he backed off quickly. She is so well behaved and her clucks are so gentle and cute ♡

she doesn't seem to have any health issues, she had some twigs/leaves tangled in her neck feathers, but I was able to cut them out without nicking any live feathers. her foot feathers were really dirty, hence why she's in the water with the ducks

Any name suggestions would be greatly appreciated

UPDATE: the chicken crowed this afternoon, so we know he's a boy. but we've had him for 2 mornings and he didn't crow during either of them. so we're going to try to keep him. we've also decided to call him Dumpling, because he was dumped, and also because chicken dumplings are delicious ♡
