Trying to cycle planted 10 gallon

Hello!! I’ve had a planted 10 gallon set up for over a month now but I only really started to cycle it two weeks ago.

Everything’s reading 0 with my test kit (ammonia, nitrite, nitrate)

I got the ammonia to almost 0.25 for like a day but then it went back to 0

I’ve been using bottled bacteria, fertilizer substrate, and the API test kit

all my plants are slow growing (I have Java ferns and another plant I don’t know the name of) and I have floater plants arriving sometime soon.

I mean there’s algae and biofilm growing in the tank but the nitrates are still at 0. My plants seem to be coming out of the initial shock now and starting to form new leaves.

Is my test kit broken? Or am I doing something wrong?

Thank you!

Seems as though you are lucky. I am going through something similar however my nitrites are always fluctuating. My fish seem fine and are active/happy. I do my water changes/use quickstart and prime in order to lower them. Even have a used filter on tank now from another established tank I have.
